Why do people always bring up Chicago, when St Louis is actually worse?
Because Chicago banned handguns to make things safer......and it only got worse.  Had nothing to do with safety, it was all about the mob.

St. Louis has always had a problem, but it's contained to certain areas.  Particularly one area where we have a state legislator that constantly introduces anti-gun legislation, yet she has a CCW permit and has been caught carrying drunk into the "peaceful protests" in her district.
"Let's just give everyone a gun.  In fact, let's give them more than one!  It seems like getting rid of them makes things worse!"  - Wayne LaPierre, probably.
Illogical John. And that wasn’t Wayne LaLierre. You have a solution?

Im a republican and wonder what the left thinks we should do about gun control? I’m not trying to be a smart a$$ just curious on what we can do to make this not happen. I honestly think civilians owning semiautomatic guns is a little crazy. You can say what you want but 59 ppl was killed in LV by a monster and it’s terrible but 59 ppl was killed in the inner city’s of Chicago last month and not one of the left leaders or movie stars has stood up and complained on TV.

Are mass shootings of innocent people the same as a collection of individual killings between criminals?

This mass shooting is terrible but the same $hit has been going on in the inner city’s for years and liberals don’t care. My point is why does it take a mass shooting for liberals to want to control guns but if your so concerned with gun murders why you haven’t said this years ago.

Plenty of them care man.  One just attracts much more media attention, for all of the obvious reasons.  20 children dying in the space of five minutes has a tendency to focus the mind.

And plenty of them are calling for gun control on a regular basis.  Many of them run on that issue as part of their platform.

Great point. The black on black crime in most major cities accounts for the vast majority of crime. Unfortunate but true.
Anyone who believes “gun control “ is the answer has no grasp on reality.

Hey don’t get me wrong I think guns need controlled. I think it would have saved a bunch of ppl life’s but just like in the UK when someone wants ppl to die they will blow them up or run them over with cars. I just wished both sides would work together and get it right but they won’t. It’s always about who’s right or who’s wrong with politics. Never about helping the country and that goes with dem and rep

The ones on the fence aren't the ones picking fights, calling names and mocking. They're usually pretty quiet but attentive while the purse swinging is going on I've found in life.  The regular characters that bait and belittle aren't worth the keyboard clicks to address. There are open minded people that haven't decided yet, those are worth a conversation.

No matter what is said the left is going to want gun control and the right isn’t going to change its stance. You can give all the charts you want but both sides aren’t going to change.
I'd agree that ain't likely to happen anytime soon.

However, the demographics of gun ownership in the US is changing quite dramatically. Fewer and fewer people are owning guns. About 50% of guns in the US are owned by about 3% of folks. About 80% of folks in the US do not own any guns.

Along with those demographic changes the politics of the issue will change. And will likely continue to change in a way that is detrimental to what has become the current NRA mindset. A different SCOTUS will render a different interpretation of the 2nd amendment. Laws will eventually change.
“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk

  • I think it will be a VERY LONG time before we see any significant change around gun legislation in the US at the federal level.  You could have a former convict legally buy a machine gun at a gun show and mow down a crowd of mothers and infants on live tv and it wouldn't move the needle.  We're desensitized, and our political system around this issue is completely broken.

Since this thread is trending south and will not find any changed minds, let me offer the following insight from the "Causes of Death in 2016" data above:
It appears at a high level that we should give up fu-king to reduce the number of abortions.  Perhaps I am mis-interpreting the data.  Have a great evening.

Hopefully they will get it right and make some changes. Like I said I’m think most liberals are fruit cakes but hopefully both side will work together and put the necessary laws in place.

Fruitcakes and asshats seem made for each other somehow... Yeah, pretty sure every fruitcake should have an asshat on top.

    <sigh>
We can all post until we're trump in the face, but nothing - absolutely nothing - will happen until there is a coup
which wrests control of the U.S. Congress from the fiscally formidable arms of the NRA and allows self-interested and campaign-minded Representatives/Senators to work in favor of measures which actually benefit American Citizens.

Until then, nothing related to firearms happens without their approval.
    Nothing.

Honestly guys if you are a politician and you are making 100k a year and the NRA or any other group offers you large sums of money to vote down the bill they don’t wont passed would you? All politicians are dirty. Trump Hillary Obama Bush’s. All are scum. They got deep pockets and they don’t care what happens. It does not effect them and they know it. The political system is so broken and that is on both sides. We can fight all we want but nothing is going to change.

There were close to zero personal or personnel scandals during Obama's eight years.  I know you're trying to play the "both sides do it card", but they're not all the same.  There are large differences and plenty of shades of gray.

The only thing this sort of view accomplishes is to prevent tough issues from being discussed.

    Absolutely right, John.
That "both sides do it" canard is an indicator of intellectual sloth
and is a large part of the problem with today's [facsimile of] political discourse.
