This is a stupid argument at best. You can do as you please of course, but you also should be prepared for the consequences. Hell, you cannot  celebrate a TD as you like. You cannot wear things on your uniform if you like. You cannot engage in behavior of any kind which th league might deem unfavorable to the league. What we have is a large portion of the country that doesn’t believe in personal responsibility and doesn’t believe there should be consequences, because they are correct and have noble intentions. The act itself is intended to Be divisive. How can the league now enforce rules on any form of expression? The union attorney will have a field day. Pandora’s box is now open. Hard to selectively enforce rules unless and only unless the individual volunteers to accept the punishment by the league. Yeah, RIght!

I won’t go that far. I am quite confident many of them do plenty. I just don’t see how this is ok with the league. It’s a clear double standard. I personally find it not helpful.

The NFL didn't even routinely have its players on the field for the playing of the national anthem until about 2009. Before that they almost always stayed in the locker room.

It was in 2009 or so that the DOD and National Guard started paying the NFL (and the MLB I believe) many millions of dollars to include patriotic displays in their events. That is when they started putting the players on the field during the anthem ceremony. 

Kinda funny that now we hear such strong faux patriotism from NASCAR team owners about firing drivers that don't stand for the anthem cuz until just a couple decades their drivers used to be/remain seated in their cars during the anthem.

Another canard. The intent is to divide by causing intentional insult. Again, you are talking about a league where if you do anything they perceive as detrimental to the leagues money machine you are punished. Often times these are incidents in the off season and are totally unrelated to football. It’s a simple issue really. It only becomes complicated when you attempt to remove the normal consequences from the acts. Then you must try to justify and convolute the issue.

Actually, I was wrong, it would be up to the team owners to fire their players, which is what Trump suggested they do. And they chose not to.
