Rolling Smoke For A Military Appreciation Event

CTMike
CTMike Posts: 3,643
I was approached by the company that manages military housing near the Submarine Base about an appreciation event they were putting on for the tenants. Long story short I agreed to do 400 Pulled Pork sammies at a deep discount as a way to give back a little.

28 pork butts were prepped last night, and hit the smoke this morning - will start serving at 3:30 PM.

Since this is an event at a submarine base, and I would assumed attended by a large number of Submariners, I hope you don't here screams of, "Like a warm pulled pork sandwich!

Looks like you are putting on a great cook for them out there.

Thanks for your service to those who serve!

Thanks all. Most of the folks who live in military housing are junior enlisted, many of whom qualify for WIC, etc due to the low pay. Having spent 20 years in the Navy, I remember what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck, and having to forgo luxury items at times.

This is just the first of hopefully many events where Goin' Deep BBQ, LLC will do what we can to help give back to those who make sacrifices to serve our country.

@CTMike - I echo all of the above (except the army crap but what more can you expect).  Great gesture for sure.  It will be well appreciated and remembered.  I just hope the weather clears when it's time for the groceries.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

Currently raining pretty good, but that radar shows it clearing out pretty soon.

It's going great, 6 of 28 butts are done and in the warmer. The remainder just got foiled and will be done in time for service. Rain has stopped so things are looking up. Hopefully people show up for the clients sake. I get paid either way but they have ~ 120# of finished Pork coming along with 40 dozen fresh baked rolls.

A couple of photos. They hired a Polynesian dance troupe for this luau themed event.

And you were worried about attendance?  The Polynesian dancer certainly didn't hurt either!
