Porkopolis EggFest-Saturday-Cincinnati-Please stop by!

Hi Everyone! I will be cooking this year, hope some of you are going-let me know. My team will be in Stall #7, opposite the stage slightly toward the end coming up the path-Germania Park. If you have not been it is a great venue, they will have 73 cooks this year-up 20% from last!

Let me know if you are going, and if you are cooking or just tasting. My team will be doing Country Style ribs, Meatballs, and smoked Mac and Cheese. It looks to be a good time!

Thanks for reading, and hope to see some of you soon!

Any of the old eggheads going to be there? At one time early one that was a major eggfest for frequent posters.

@RRP I bought my XL at the first Porkopolis event.  I had the pleasure of meeting several old forum eggheads.  Spent the day hanging and talking with them.  There was a large group of Florida and Georgia Eggers that would come up and support the event. I spent a lot of time at Vidalia's booth.
Not sure how many are going to be there this year.

I don't need much of anything as far as Eggs and accessories go, but I would definitely go to see some old friends and meet some new one's.  But with no guarantee that many of them will be there, $25 is a pretty expensive way to find out.

Can someone give me a quick rundown of how these eggfests work?

So you pay 25 dollars to get in and then you get to eat all the food you want plus the cost of beer.  Porkopolis is only about 30 mins away from me but I wasn't sure how long it runs.

Yes, and there will be vendors there selling products, rubs, etc.  It's really open and friendly.  You can ask cooks questions and pick up recipes for things you like.

MOST or at least MANY Eggfests are FREE and they are "FUNFESTS" - not contests, nor "lets's-see-how-much-we-can-charge-and-get-by-doing-it-fests!"
Granted an eggfest takes work, but the trade off for MOST dealers is selling more BGEs plus selling even more of the higher retail profit items called eggcessories.

I think RRP is just lucky to live in the right area. I've been to a number of Eggfests and never saw one that was free.

Cincinnati, Ohio. Large BGE since 2011. Still learning.

As I had understood, from those which I had attended, most of the proceeds go to a charity of some sort. It is up to you whether you wish to participate.
My Beautiful Wife and I attend several non bge functions, for different charitable causes every year, of which, the cost is typically well above the typical $25.00 per person.
Initially, it may seem somewhat expensive, but C'mon man! You bought, or are about to buy and own a BGE money pit. Have some fun, and learn something, or meet friends, and have a beer, or, even better, stuff your face with all the delicious food served there.
My Beautiful Wife and I,  never walk away from a night out with friends for less than $50.00, so for us, it is about cost vs fun.

@YukonRon is right. The entry fee goes to a charity, they pick a new one every year. This year it is Panther Backpacks I believe. People get to vote on their favorite item and I think there are prizes for that, it is a lot of fun. The cooks (at least last year) got a few goodies-but I do it for the fun. The people we are cooking with this year are old friends, so hanging with them is fun.

Food so far: Country style ribs, Bourbon Green Beans, Meatballs and Mac and Cheese.

I have just been told they are giving us an XL. Hope to see you guys soon!
