Rocks in my charcoal

Hoping to get some feedback as a new member. I have just finished my second bag of BGE brand lump charcoal and in both bags I found rocks, first bag was a large 3-4 inch and the second bag had 3 or 4, 1 inch to 2 inch size rocks. Has anyone else experienced this or is this normal with most brands?

They are put into the lump and intended to be heat retainers and radiators, hence doubling the life of your lump.
Not really, normal part of lump charcoal although you mined more than average.

Save your rocks. When you have enough to fill up an empty bag of charcoal take it to your local dealer and they will (may) give you a free bag.Snellville, GA

Lol, I won't hold my breath on the free bag. Good to know it seems to be fairly normal. Thanks for the feedback

I don't take them out until they've been cooked a couple of times, then they go out with the ash.

Normal. Site debris finds its way into the bags as they use bulldozers, skid-loaders and the like to move the product around the production facility. They overfill the bags to compensate.

You will find additional pieces in al brands....some more than others. You will find a few rocks in every brand you try. Pour slowly and avoid the large ones from crashing into your Egg. Otherwise, standard operating procedure.Athens, GA

Welcome! I also wanted to mention that BGE lump is Royal Oak. You can get it in a red bag at Home Depot or Wal-Mart for much cheaper. Same lump..Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Obviously defective. Give the rest of that bag to me for proper disposal.Flint, Michigan

I have found bolts, rocks, plastic, spring, unknown charred mass, and a couple of keys.
They work perfect in the trash can.

I've found a decent size rock in just about every bag of RO from HD. Doesn't bother me too much... Just got to be careful not to drop em on your ceramics.
This thread reminded me of a recent discovery in my newest bag of RO: black fluff. In fear of having two lump threads active this close to a friday, I'll just ask on this thread (sorry for the hijack). Any health concerns with finding possible kiln insulation in the bag? or just remove the fluff from the bag and egg with rest?
Sorry for the hijjack @RyeGuy, cheers!"It's not the beard on the outside that counts, its the beard on the INSIDE."
