BS Owners: Sand the Top or Not?

I have a 28" I bought this year. I washed the top and started with bacon to season it. I'm starting to think I should have sanded the top to get a smoother surface. I thought the seasoning would smooth the surface, but so so it hasn't. So what say you Blackstone owners? Did you sand the top or not?Flint, Michigan

Only a "17 here - but no!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I have on both of mine, and my CS pans.
It isn't necessary, but like old iron, it is nice, especially for eggs.BrandonQuad Cities

too late for me now, but like with a random orbit sander so as to not leave permanent scratches? BTW I sanded the be-jeebers out of that carbon steel skillet I had before 3 attempts at seasoning that thing. It still ended up remelted into some farmer's barbed wire fence somewhere!Focker said:I have on both of mine, and my CS pans.

I used a B and D mouse sander, and ended with a fine grit. Super easy. They seasoned up just fine. I have a second 17" top in the garage BS sent. I will sand it too, eventually. The warped top doesn't bother me too much though, it still works fine....good to have a backup though.RRP said:

I suppose you may notice the sanding on the first few cooks, but very the build up will make it a moot point. It will end up black and slick very soon.

I took my 28" to the beach. Other than that,no.

No sanding, just regular use.
I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

No sanding here. Once you get the patina going, you really dont care.
