OT - Planning trip to Charlotte

planning a trip to charlotte in September or October to watch FSU play either the wake Forrest game in Winston Salem or the Duke game.

we are planning to be there Friday through Sunday and go to Elavation church in charlotte.

any Q or other good eats that are a must? Thanks!

Del frisco's is great. Little expensive but food is top notch and have a wonderful wine selection.

Whatever you do, don't let somebody talk you in to going to Mac's Speed Shop. Sauceman's BBQ is pretty decent.

Wait, where are you eating? Charlotte as you said, I was thinking Charlotte.  Will you be going to Winston or Durham?  Those two cities are far from Charlotte.  

Sorry, didn't read into that enough. Cabo Taco is in Charlotte,  near BOA stadium.

If you are going to the new Elevation campus in Ballantyne, go another 5 miles south into South Carolina, past Sun City to 521 BBQ in the Harris Teeter shopping center. Best on that side of town.

Not BBQ.....but Cajun. The Cajun Queen has great food and a great atmosphere. Ask to be in the room with the band.

If you're going to be in Durham for the Duke game I'd try to get over to Picnic.

BBQ Hatfield is right 521 BBQ is tops.

Wolfpack nailed my favorite with Barringtons. Others would include Good Food on Montfort
and Miro.

Fun spots are Pinky's, Cabo Fish Taco, 

Seoul Food Meat Company, 

Sabor Latin Street Grill.

If you're looking for good BBQ in Charlotte, you'll be disappointed my friend. We have many choices like Mac's, Queen City Q, Midwood, and City Q. They all try too hard in my opinion. Usually oversmoked and dry and overpriced. All the really good BBQ in NC is about 4 hrs East of CLT with the exception of Bridges BBQ lodge in Shelby, about an hour west, and The Smoke Pit in Concord, about 15 minutes North of the Speedway in Concord.  Definitely go to Pinkeys. If you drink beer, we have plenty of breweries. OMB is set up as close to a German beer garden as possible; all the way down to the picnic tables imported from Germany and the gravel on the paths. They have an excellent selection of German food too. Cabo, in NODA is also a good suggestion. An absolute must is Amalie's bakery in NODA. They're open 24/7 and almost always have a line about 15 minutes long.

Still think Mac’s Speed Shop is good.  Really good brisket.  With multiple locations closer to chain but certainly not a national or regional chain.

Maybe the one in your town, the brisket in Greensboro is meh.  I really liked their smoked chicken nachos though. 


@slovelad can you confirm where exactly you're heading?

Catered in Charlotte twice and once at the restaurant.  All good.

@tarheelmatt not yet, kind of a toss up between going to the duke game, wake Forrest game, or Clemson game. And likely travel to charlotte somewhere in between
