Yeti Help

So I'm the new owner of a Yeti Hopper 40 2 cooler. I have had the cooler for about a month. For some reason I can put ice in it and in about 24-36 hours the ice is melted and the water is room temp. I have it zipped all the way up 99% of the time unless im
opening it to get a drink out. Is this normal? Now the ice is the thin type of ice so I'm sure that has something to do with it. I haven't researched it but I know someone on this forum will have the answer.

How long do you expect it to last?   36 hours sounds pretty good to me

If you read the post, it's lasting much less than 36 hours. In 24-36 hours the ice is gone and remaining water is at room temp.
    Thank you,

Yeah the ice is melting in 24 hours and it turns to room temp shortly after that. Maybe that's normal? I'm not sure I have heard ppl say the ice in Yeti last 5-6 days. Maybe they was just BS me.

I think the 5-6 day claim is for the hard sided coolers.  I would imagine the soft side cooler don't last as long.

If your putting ice on hot/room temp drinks that will melt your ice quicker also. Try pre chilling your drinks and you should see a big difference.

Some tips for increasing your time.
    1. don't start with a cooler stored in a hot garage.
    2. pre-chill by adding a cooler pack or ice several hours before use. Yes, pain in *ss but helps.
    3. Try your best not to start with warm/room temp drinks. Pre-chill them.
    4. Use thoroughly frozen ice. Wet ice that is already starting to melt will not last as long. An ice cube will freeze between 30-32 degrees but good frozen ice cubes will be much colder and last longer.
    5. keep cooler out of direct sunlight and not in a hot, closed up car when possible.

    Hope this helps

I have a hopper, it will hold for a day tops I say other than that you will have a watery mess.
the second day it makes a great drink cooler with the cold watery ice that's about it,

I bring my cooler in the house the night before I want to use it and leave it open.  Thats drops the cooler temp considerably.

I also use Frozen Solid Blocks of some sort- Blue Ice, Frozen full Polar Bottles.

The more you open it the less it will work as well.

This is bang on, on all fronts.
  • Worst $399 cooler ever made. I have one that I got free and still feel like I got screwed a little :). I'm kidding about that part but if I paid $400 for one of those I would be pi$$ed off. I was at Sam's today and they had private label knock off for $139. That is a fair price.

I received as a gift but I would be super pissed if I had paid $400 for this cooler. Not sure I need a Yeti I got a refrigerator.

No clue really. I just load the drinks in it and put it to the top with ice.

    Todays Test...

My 10+ year old Igloo that has served well.  Best I can determine its a 50-56 qt.
My 18 month old Yeti 65

They were stocked this morning directly from Garage so they were 80ish degrees.  Stocked each with (80) small bottles of water that had been sitting in garage a few days.

The Yeti had a bit more leftover space than the igloo but in general interior space was similar.  Filled each with a bottom layer of drinks top up and orderly then a layer of ice, next layer of drinks in same fashion.  Yeti was 2 rows perfectly, Igloo required a 3rd row laying down.  Covered the top with ice.  Each cooler took about 20# of ice.

Now I dont need them until mid day tomorrow and I need all of it for a 5th grade school party so I had plenty of time to get to temp.  This evening I drained all the water out and refilled with ice knowing hot coolers and warm bottles would blow out the first wave of ice.

Igloo was almost devoid of ice- put ~13# of ice in it, Yeti was still holding ice well, topped off with the other 7#.  I anticipate at this rate I will put another 15# or so in the Igloo in the AM and the other 5# in the Yeti.

I got that Yeti as a gift, wish I had the 50 instead but when I use it I am always highly impressed with how well it works.  Actually for this test I am actually more surprised the first ice wasnt equally.  I would say the same for the RTIC 20 I picked up, holds ice and temp very well.

and also pre-chill the cooler itself with some cold packs, dry ice for a few hours before loading.
