Cleaning the inside of your BGE

Using a wadded up ball of aluminium foil is a good way to clean the inside surfaces of your egg. First build a hot fire and let it burn out, kind of like a self cleaning oven, when the egg is fully cooled, just use the foil ball as a scrub pad to remove the built up carbon and smoke deposits in the dome, base and fire box.

Does the BGE really need to be cleaned? I mean what's the criteria for the BGE needing cleaning? I don't recall reading anything about cleaning the BGE besides from emptying charcoal ashes.

I guess at some point you could have carbon and grease buildup that needed cleaning. Based on my experience so far, that would take many years of almost daily use.Michiana, South of the border.
