It's tough to have nice grass in the south. I tried for years and dropped a ton of money on it. Really need good irrigation,  but I have a good bit to mow and up keep.

Summers are brutal.  Fescue will go dormant,  then the common Bermuda takes over.

I looked into sodding with zoyisa,  but that's expensive too.

After one last bout with Bermuda,  I sprayed the front three times with glyphosate,  tilled, and removed the thatch. Sowed with some of the best blend quality fescue.  Germinated great and was a nice stand of grass.

I be damned if the Bermuda came back with a vengence. Lol. I gave up.

Here's some from the good ol days.

Oh man.  A basket of golf balls and a wedge on most of these lawns would be a good time.
I'm still about a month away of warm weather for mine to look like these.

Some of you rich folks spent more on your yard than I spent on my home. It must be nice my friends. Sadly I will never know.

I get jealous when we go to Ohio and almost all lawns look really nice and green. I asked them do they do much to their yards and the reply was not really. Their soil is much better there than where I am.

The key to success here is if you think you put enough lime down, put another half ton on it to be sure.

Its all about what you like to do...

I spend my weekend time at cheer leading, softball, or at the lake.....

I do , however, cut my weeds every week to the same length.

i treat my yard like democrats see Americans....weeds and grass...their all the same and should be treated as equal...

It will be several weeks before I'm mowing. The yard is getting aerated and seeded today. It will be pretty ugly for a while.

Mine is in the same shape. I plugged, lime, and fertilized last weekend. I should be getting some action popping up by end of the week. I don't like to seed in spring, but didnt get around to it in the fall.

Hopefully I'll get a good root base before it gets balls hot.

I wont be cutting for another 6-8 weeks, and i am already cringing at the thought of it. My lawn is 2.5 acres. I try my best to never cut on the wknds cause i hate it. It gets cut about once a week, weeds, sticks, rocks and all as low as i possibly can in hopes it gets stunted and i can get 10 days to 2 weeks between cuts

I need to cut ASAP!  I like having the bottom of my shoes visable when I walk thru it; guess I've spent too much time on football fields.

I use a 22" McLane Reel from time to time, but the Snapper gets most of the work.  That reel is a beast, but she gives a nice cut.

Matt-  I have a Bermuda Hybrid.  I had friends who were Turf Scientists at UGA back when we bought the place and they sprigged my with a Hybrid Bermuda Turf in the front that makes a great turf for light traffic areas; it just wouldn't hold up to the heavy traffic of fields.  They stopped its study for mass production.  I keep overseeding and filling in areas with Bermuda I grow from seed in a hot box each spring.

Did my first cut here in Seattle. Said goodbye to the Honda HR21 finally 30 years old, and picked up the Kobalt 80 V mower, trimmer and blower. Happy as a clam , great start up , mower is 1/2 the weight of the Honda and. No more gas.

Didn't know they used mowers to cut the grass they harvest up there in Seattle?

Not only is it mowing time but also getting the garden prepped with the old 317.  I love spring and being able to get outside and do stuff!

A few times a year I wish I had that. Other times it gives me an excuse to go sit on a seat, listen to tunes, drink beer, and do mindless thinking. Almost relaxing and it accomplishes something. I hate push mowing though. I'd have no problem pushing that off to someone else....

The yard was drying up nicely, still some frost in the ground, was planning on possibly doing some grass thatching this coming up weekend as it should be nice out. Then I woke up to a small blizzard, didn't last long, snow will be gone again my this afternoon or tomorrow I am sure. Definitely looking forward to summer.

However... under that snow still shows my cut lines from last year, had some visitors over the weekend and they asked me if I had already cut the grass this year.

This was from last summer. First time I let my 12 year old use the mower. He did alright.

No but I'm on the fence about it. Sent you a PM with a few questions regarding reel mowers if you don't mind.
