    Thanks again.
One more question: Weber is offering a free sample of their new "100% all natural hardwood charcoal." But it appears to be molded into briquettes. Free is good, but should I stay away from this offer?
You can use that with impunity.  It produces more ash but cooks fine.  It's the only product @SGH uses.  Seriously, it's fine and you should take advantage of the offer.

  • Welcome. Enjoy the ride and don't fret the 300 for the first few cooks. Plenty to do at temps below that. But my second cook got away from me and the temp went over 800. No real issue resulted. But I wouldn't go picking at the seal if you run it too hot. My loosen the glue and speed up the need to replace it.

I cooked ABTs, chicken, ribs, and pork butts my first few cooks under 350. There's a wide range of cooks to be done there.

    Enjoy your Egg!  :)

Welcome aboard. Chicken, pork, beef, turkey or ham. You can cooking anything you want just make time for the lower temp.

  • Thanks. I thought that was the case, but i wanted to check.
  • Thanks for the comments. Of course, I guess I was getting a little ahead of myself here--see separate thread on my problems with adding the hinges to the egg during assembly. This is a great community.

Have fun with your new egg! Don't sweat the small stuff, your gasket will be fine.

I did baby back ribs as my first cook.  Really good way to start and you'll get some great advice on here.  Have fun!
  • I was worried about the gaskets the first time I fired up my new egg, so I decided to play it safe with a low and slow pork shoulder.  When it was done I pulled it off the grill and during the celebration forgot to close the lid of the egg...  No more gaskets to worry about anymore! LOL

I don't think the first couple of cooks will make that big a deal of the lifespan of your gaskets.  If you really worried about them lasting, I'd read more about pizza cook temps, clean burns, and keep an eye on your adult beverage intake
