The Godfather 1 & 2 are the gold standard of mobster movies.  They defined the genre.  Subsequent mobster movies like Goodfellas may be great in their own right, but they are always compared to The Godfather movies.
They're great movies, period.  You can drop the "mobster" qualifier.  I think both are on AFI's top 100 list.
Are you saying they're not mobster movies?
No.  That is explicitly not what I am saying.  lol
Oh.  So I guess you're not saying anything other than speculating that those movies are on the AFI Top 100 list.  Also taking an opportunity to bust my chops as well.  Good job.
Jesus Fred, relax man.  I'm not busting your chops.  I'm just saying you don't need to qualify them as "mobster movies" to say that they're great.  I think they're as great as *any other* movie made.  That's all.  Capisce?
Yeah, I think you are overreacting on this one Fred. You have to remember that John has a severe aversion to any kind of label. That's all.

I believe what John was saying is that the movies are considered a couple of the best of all time, regardless of genre.  They are the gold standard in the mobster genre, no doubt.  However, the movies are so good that they are considered classics amongst other movies in other genres, ie Star Wars, Citizen Kane, Seven Samurai, etc.

    Yep.  Thanks.

Clem: Hey! You're talking to my guy all wrong. It's the wrong tone. Do it again, I'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron.

I've loved these movies since I was a kid. As an adult, the tragedy of Michael Corleone is what strikes me. These get better with age. GF 3 on the other hand . . .:)

Never saw them.  They seem uninteresting to me.
