XL Drip Pan Concept

Hi Guys,
After researching drip pans for my XL, and rigging an aluminum turkey pan for a 4 shoulder cook last weekend I quickly realized the need for a more permanent solution. That being said I set out in search of a more cohesive option for my XL and made the following list of qualifications.
1. Comes from manufacturer totally sealed.
2. Can hold up to a gallon of liquid/fat run-off.
2. Will not fold over or warp when grabbed by one side (hot or cold).
4. Still thin enough to allow for 3 spacers underneath between drip pan over placesetter and not touch cooking surface.
After weighing all the options and extensive searching(including the CGS model which was the leader in my mind aside from its smaller size, and the Hot Water Heater Pan with hole filled) I found the perfect unit.

I am very excited to put it to its first use as I think this combo best suits the XL and is highly economical.
Interested to hear other users opinions as this could be suited to work with any size egg.

Seems like a good idea though I can't see the pan. Can't imagine lifting the pan with that gripper: it's probably just for sliding it around.

Can't get the first link to pull up the pan but I think it's just a deep dish pizza pan. Should work great.
Not sure why you would ever need or expect to hold close to 1 gallon of liquid. But if you do, post a video of you removing it with the pan gripper.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -

Looks like that would work well. One suggestion, you may want to get two of the grippers. A long shallow pan fool of liquid does not need to tip much to spill.

Good looking set up. I think if I were going to try to lift it out hot I would just use welders gloves and grab that sucker. That gripper would make me nervous with a pan full of grease...especially if the egg is lit.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I agree, seldom is a drip pan used in direct contact with a high temp cook.
But the CGS stainless pan can be used instead of a platesetter as the indirect piece. Would not want to do this with aluminum pan.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
Next time I think I'll try and find a piece of tile from the space-shuttle for insulation and drip pan... That way no one can doubt is integrity!
(I am aware the tiles failed on the shuttle, bad analogy; you get the point) -
