Not type A? Who would've figured? hahaha

You just leave the 17 out in the weather uncovered? I can't decide which would be worse, trapping moisture under a waterproof cover or just letting it get rained on.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Finally got around to reading my morning paper after dinner tonight and an article says that Lidl is planning to open their first 20 stores in the USA by this summer. Five of them will be in my area. The closest one just 3 or 4 miles away.

Wondering if any of our outside the US members can tell us how Lidl compares with their rival Aldi.

Ours is almost complete.  Maybe next month. Aldi has a grand reopening this Monday.

My Aldi closed for remodeling in mid April. Reopening on Monday. S'pose they're nervous? From what I hear about Lidl, I would be.

The article said they were opening some of their stores on June 15th but the company wouldn't say exactly which stores will be among them. Sounds like perhaps your might be.

I've never heard of this "Lidl" until this post today. I have to wonder why is there this continued "race to the bottom"? Wally World drove MANY small stores and even chains out of business. I do get the idea of deep pocket strategy of ruthless pricing, but that only goes on for so long.

Aunt Maple's buttermilk pancakes do not disappoint from Aldi. My wife and I grabbed a box a few trips ago and both thought they were great pancakes. We grabbed a few more boxes this week and made around 3 dozen this morning on the Blackstone. We had multiple people say that they were the best pancakes they've had. No real magic. Aldi pancake mix and a Blackstone. I'm sold on the mix.

Grabbed some naan today that looked pretty good.  May make the boys personal pizzas with it soon.

Tried a Hangry Tomato 12" frozen pie to keep in the freezer for a pinch.

Also found a funnel cake shake and pour kit that looked like fun.

And lastly, a 16" pizza cutter for $2.99, solid for 3 bones.  Will be perfect for the 16" pepperoni take and bakes for the kids.

The naan was decent.  The pizza on the back of the package inspired the trials.  Platesetter, grid, two firebricks on their sides, 14" stone.
Pesto was really good, and their Italian sausage was better than Schnucks at half the price.  They were out of the reg mozz balls, had to go with the minis.  Even the roasted garlic was from Aldi.

    450, pesto, KBQ'd chicken, bacon.

    500

    550, best temp

Man, we had an Artisan Aloha Teriyaki pig jerky with lunch, tender, great flavor.  It's in a bright blue hawaii flower bag.  The Hangry tomater pie was a solid frozen option today, while doing yardwork with 3 boys.  Preheated the oven as I got cleaned up.  Added some Aldi Select cheddar chicken sausage, pepper, cheddar, cherry tomaters, and a swirl of Mike's.

@Focker, thanks for the heads up on the no salt seasoning. Too bad the price label says "limited time". Love no salt lemon pepper, but it can be hard to find. McCormick's used to sell it, but now, salted only. Even made my own once. HINT: Zesting a dozen lemons is a PITA!!! =)

Will look for the pizza cutter too... something else to figure out where to store!

Lol, zesting that many would be a major pita.

The door of my upright freezer is the spice rack.  If you want to try some and can't find it, let me know and I can ship some out for a trial package.

The 16" cutter was 50% off at $3.  Worth every penny, even has a travel sleeve.  In the last week or so, have bought two rockers for a total of $10....the pizza wheels may be retiring with a sharp edge on the rockers, much easier and faster, and better cut.  The 16"er has some weight to it, which helps.  And I can use them on the butcher block.  The wheels I have chew up the bamboo and peels pretty good.  You can see the battle scars in one pic above.  That Sassafrass peel has been through wars though. Lol

Thanks, Brandon, but I just got back from ALDI and did find the no salt seasonings. Appreciate the offer though. No pizza cutters, but that's okay, my wheel is fine. Also bought a squeeze bottle of habanero mustard. Never heard of such a thing. Tasted it as I was putting it away. Good stuff, quite a kick! Unfortunately, it's a one time thing too, like the no salt spices. Oh well.

I tried a bottle of the lemon pepper, out of 2 cases, only 3 were lemon pepper, so you, and others, must be on to something.  For 2 and change, it's a great rub.  I hit up the less frequented Silvis, IL Aldi.  Went in looking for the grass fed ribeyes and left with these purty strips instead.  Already prepped for SV.  Skirt has gone up a buck per lb, and chuck $0.50.

  • Just an interesting tidbit - the company that owns Aldi (out of Germany) also owns Trader Joe's.  I've yet to try a Trader Joe's but hear some great things.
