My new table
Boo
Posts: 8
Hey all,
I have owned my large egg for years now. I have been using the nest it came in. Recently I wanted a table. I found Naked Whiz plans online and used those for the dimensions. I used my background in cabinetry to modify his plans to the way I do my own woodworking. Basically, I am really proud of the finished product.
I used western cedar lumber, finished it with a Minwax stain and Helmsman/Minwax VOC varnish. I am proud of the way it turned out.
I posted up some pictures.

I also made a couple of shinny new wood handles for my egg. That is why the handles look so good and the egg is so faded

Looks nice! BTW in pictures 2 and 4 there is a tub of split wood. I that just firewood, or do you make some of your cabinets from "scratch"?
-
That is my dad's cabinet shop. He is retired now, he made "custom" cabinets from scratch as you would define it. No pressed wood, just hardwoods and hardwood veneer plywoods. The shop is now used by local guys for different projects they rent it from him. I still go over and mess around when I have a project to do.
-
BTW that is firewood. We bought our lumber from a local source and used kiln dried stuff. We rarely had trees "milled" because it is pretty labor intensive to do that and a slow process when air drying the wood.

I'd still recommend an air gap between the egg and the paver.
This is literally the exact same design I had on my table - I inset the paver and had it on the framing elements as well. Eventually the paver cracked (it wasn't cracked when I started my cook or shut my egg down) and the framing underneath ignited. The table burned during the late evening/early AM, subsequently tipping over and starting the siding on fire.
We also had synthetic decking material and that stuff does not burn - if the table had tipped away from the house, the house would not have been lost.
Anyway, sorry for the rambling - but get a table nest or some other way to create an air gap - save yourself a lot of heartache. -

Very good, I'd have pride in that table“There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.”

Thanks for the info on the air gap. I will do that.

I wished at many times I would have just made the table only and left the egg in the nest.------------------------------
