    Reminds me of "Soul Glo"

I also have a bag of this that I haven't cracked open yet. I looked it up after I grabbed a bag based on a recommendation from a guy at a BBQ store and if I remember correctly it's just re-packaged Royal Oak. My go-to is Rockwood from Firecraft, but always like to try others. Let us know what you think.

@StillH2OEgger is correct. Sysco carries the Nature-Glo. I was told it was the food service brand of Royal Oak.

I have used it before and found it comparable to RO.

Thanks guys. Not a real big fan of RO. Too many small pieces.  Rockwood for me.

It's my regular cook got to brand.  It is made by royal oak but is in ny opinion a much better product.  Large chunks and very little small pieces,  not to mention $12.95 for a 35lb bag.  I have tried a side by side comparison with Royal Oak and it's not even close.  I use the higher end brands for the higher end cooks.

Glad to hear this. Looks like you can get a much better deal on it where you're at than I did.

Royal Oak product comes from a plethora (always wanted to use that word) of manufacturing facilities.  Not all facilities have the same manufacturing skill level, nor the same type of kilns, nor the same pit master training.  Plus, the Royal Oak brand is sold through a number of big box stores.  The net result is that you might have great luck with Royal Oak in your area of the country ... or you might not ... it's a crap shoot.  Since Nature Glo is not normally sold from big box stores who are more interested in price than quality, you have a better chance that the Nature Glo lump is a reasonable product.  In our area, until Rockwood arrived, Nature Glo was my go to lump ...

I have learned a lot in this thread. I see now why the RO I bought on sale at Walmart is crap. Also the meat shop that I spied the Nature Glo in is overpriced. I'm lucky to live about 15 mins from 1 of only 2 places in KY that sells Rockwood. Thanks again for the input.

An important thing to remember, is no mater how great the charcoal is when it leaves the manufacture, it can be destroyed by rough handling.
Charcoal is fragile. I have always been of the opinion that a lot of the small pieces in the bottom of the bag are the result of rough handling.

That changed recently, it's now available in more Ace stores in KY.  Not sure if that would extend to your area though.....mostly in southwestern KY.  The next expansion a few months will cover all of KY.  Had to get New England in first per Ace--we go live in 500 stores this week.  Stay tuned.

Any Ace in GA or SC has been able to carry it for the last 3 yrs......if it's not on the shelf, use SKU 8400772 to order.  I know there are two stocking Ace's plus another dealer on the west Augusta.  It doesn't look like there's an Ace nearby Aiken, so those are probably the closest anyway.
