Drop point skinner build

I've been trying to play around with some different profiles trying to find something I like that I can really make my own.

This is my take on a drop point skinning knife and I really like this one. I still have a few flaws I need to figure out how to overcome but I'm pretty darn happy with this one. The handle is wenge and I haven't applied any finish in this picture. Need to get some oil for this one. I sanded the blade to 400 grit and the wenge to 1500, all by hand. My fingers hurt :)

Very nice! You know since you are really getting into this knife making you ought to spring for a random orbit electric palm sander - they really don't cost that much!

@RRP. It would be great for knives without a plunge line. Did you see my Santoku?  Would be great for that. Good advice.
Talking my wife into a 2x72 belt grinder would be a better idea but little to no chance of that happening.

Awesome knife! If you ever need someone to test any of your knives I'd be glad to send you my address.  =)

Tell her you really want that $1,400 one and then throw a few temper tantrums! After you have worn her down tell her you were unreasonable and will settle for that cheaper $500 one!

Have you thought of the newer small jitter bug sander that has a backing HDF pad? Pneumatic or electric, direct application?
It could get you dialed in a bit faster using lower grits, stepping up 100 grit at a time to get it where you want it. Then you can finish, hand sanding to the desired grit.
I don't know if this is the direction for you, but, it might help.
That is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship.
