Best way to warm up food after using Food Saver

I used the Food Saver (first time) to pack some of the BB I did last week. What is the best method for  reheating meat that is vacuum packed? Please no Sous Vide answers as that ain't going to fly with SWMBO - I've already spent too much money on my egg obsession.

I just drop mine in boiling water for 15 to 20 minutes, works great for me.

Personally I just put the FS bag as is in a Dutch oven, fill half way with water and warm on the stove. Been doing it that way for years now!

Same as above . We do this when packing into the mountains on the horses. Pot of boiling water and 15 to 20 minutes and food tastes just like when you cooked it
  • all of the above are actually sous vide answers :). Sous vide is not a piece of equipment, it's a technique using vac bags and warm water.

Warm tap water, pot on the stove, crock pot. All good advice and i agree it's the best way to rewarm vac sealed food.

Simmering water for 10-15 if frozen or in SV bath at 175 for 15-20.

I will add that if you don't use some sort of thermometer and just go with a pot and boiling water, if you leave it in the water to long it will release the seals and you will wind up with water in your bag. Or worse when you lift the bag out of the water your food falls back in the pot!!

I only used BOILING water once. Melted the bag. Been a while and I forget, but it may have been just a zip loc. According to these guys, boiling is okay. :) Regardless, I use 160-170° water with vac bags.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Great. I can boil simmer water and that doesn't cost me any more money.

I'll concede that this is a poor man's sous vide.

^^ This.  If boiling water is used, you run the risk of further cooking the already cooked food.

I have never had a bag melt or seal fail while reheating in hot water on the stove and I use this method A LOT! And that includes much-o bags of homemade soup.

    Thanks. I corrected my post.

Now I don't have to figure out if I can boil water on the egg. :o
