    Intrigued.

The fan has the male end that will screw into the receiver mounted to the door of the egg...the stoker fan is not variable speed...I can adjust the throttle of air flow via the ball valve.

  • Oh so you're ensuring constant air intake and control the amount by turning the blue stuff.

The daisy wheel will have a permanent position / setting?

  • Ohh, interesting.

If that's a DC motor wouldn't you be able to somewhat control speed with PWM?

    Not sure about the PWM...

can't take credit for the idea, just the thought process to get it in the egg...

below is my stoker fan set up for my Stumps...it has worked well on the baby, stretch, and now my Baby XL...

Interesting. I have 3 Stokers and used them for 4+ years now.
I don't quite understand what you are trying to accomplish here. I'm assuming you still use the Stoker itself correct?
Would you mind explaining why the ball valve is necessary on a BGE?

Is your problem when the fan is on or off?
If on do you have to much air flow?

@billt01 What model gravity are you using with the Stoker?  Stumps by chance?

    No problem on the egg...

had ad a big problem on the Stumps because I left the ball valve wide open and lost several hundred dollars of protein while I slept...the fire actually sucked air through the fan port even though the fan was not spinning...

i consider this more of a proactive move rather than a reactive....

Ok now I understand. Yep the flap will allow for a draft effect.
I have never experienced a draft effect on my Eggs where an abundance of air drove it over temp. So your issue is using it on the Stumps, correct?
Where due you put your fire temp probe on the Stumps?

That's going to be quite a bit of weight hanging there with the fan attached.

What do you need the fan for when a full air compressor tank would do the same???

OK. The flange and adapters seemed like they would add some weight hanging off that JB weld.

  • Interesting idea, but why?  I've owned an egg for over 10 years and haven't had any trouble dialing in temps after the first month of ownership.

I think there are commercial units designed for the same purpose.  Some have wireless or wifi so you can monitor and control from inside, or even on your phone.  Some connect to a thermometer and regulate themselves to hold your pre-programmed temp.  It's a cool idea.  Your handywork skills will make you a popular guy when the zombies come.  ;)

My fan has a damper on it I can close and open to restrict the flow of air to it... came with the digi q fan.
