Egg flaming up

So my egg used to hardly flame up at higher heats, but I just recently moved and now it's flaming up like crazy just from the air. What do you think is going on

Lol. No crap. But it's horrible
-
Eh it could be worse, what if it didn't like Oxygen?!?!Large BGE - McDonald, PA

You're killing me. I've been cooking on this for 3 years. This isn't normal
-
Dude it's a grill, start with a smaller fire for low and slows. For direct, use less lump if you can to move the flare ups further away from the grate. Clean the grate, cook less greasy food...

When in doubt, call in a chemist... @nolaeggheadLarge BGE - McDonald, PA

It's all about the fuel. Oxygen as mentioned and the flow of it. Lower flow and you'll be good. Amount of lump doesn't matter. How you light the fire does.Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga

I think the flow of oxygen is clogged from the move. I'll clean it tomorrow
-
As above, the BGE runs on air-flow which then controls the size of the fire (thus the ability to run dang near forever on one load of lump). I would guess you have gone from a higher to lower altitude (thus more air pressure). So with your prior vent settings you are now introducing more air (read oxygen) to the fire and seeing the resultant response. However I did NOT sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night so I could be totally off the mark here. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

You say you recently moved? Well there's your problem. You're clearly living in a more oxygenated region now.~ John - Formerly known as ColtsFan - https://www.instagram.com/hoosier_egger

Lol. I moved 1 mile.
-
Unlikely unless a really large altitude change. 21% O2 at sea level and 18% a mile high. The difference would not drastically change a fire. It's the flow.ColtsFan said:You say you recently moved? Everything was tilted from the dolly. All probably shifted.

I think a physicist would be more appropriate.RedSkip said:When in doubt, call in a chemist... @nolaegghead

I think the burning of fuel with fire and oxygen is a chemical process not physical. @buzd504
perhaps you mean I misspoke about NOLAs profession? I'm not really 100% sure his educational background TBH.Large BGE - McDonald, PA -
Move is terrible now the rates are going up. Renting before building
-
Oh, you may be right, and I do believe @nolaegghead is a chemist by trade, but I was thinking more about the fluid dynamics of airflow than the science of combustion. Maybe we need a think tank?RedSkip said:I think the burning of fuel with fire and oxygen is a chemical process not physical. @buzd504

@buzd504. good point, I wasn't think about the fluid dynamics.
Why does a flame burn up, even when you turn it upside down?
Do do fires burn up or do structures burn down?Large BGE - McDonald, PA -
Someone needs to call a neurosurgeon...

i have a few NS friends and they're much smarter than me. My chemistry degree probably won't help you, unless you read what I said. Assess air flow. It's what fuels a Kamado. If you have flare-ups it's either the fire you built or fat drippings flaring up.Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga

Maybe it cracked during the move. Much more air now.Large, Medium, MiniMax, 36" Blackstone
