20hr Boston Butt

Cooked this 10lb beauty for 10hrs at 205 then bumped it up to 225 for the remaining 10hrs after a long night on the Egg.  Pulled her off at 203 degrees F.   I'd say it was a success!

  • Looking good sir. Try bumping the temp from the start to avoid such a long cook. Same result either way. Enjoy!

Looks good , but you have more patience than me I go to 250 to 275 and get it done in 8 hours . I can't keep mime at 205 that long.  I do turbo when in a hurry and get it done in 6 cooking at 325 to 375.

  • Yeah last one I did was 250 for 12 hrs, much faster.   Thought this one was a bit more tender and juicy but that might have been the difference from going to a butcher vs the grocery store.

Pretty much just wanted to try out my new FlameBoss 200 wifi and see how it held the temp on a longer cook.  Needless to say, it did not disappoint!
  • Nothing wrong with playing around with your meat. Trial and error is how you perfect the end product to your liking.

  • Looks great, but 20 hours is WAY too long for me with a butt.

Not sure if your new too the egg,, if you haven't tried turbo yet I highly recommend it. I go 325ish and get better results IMO than low and slow. Plus the time saved is a plus. I even turbo ribs now too and love the results.  Great cook though!

Let's not be dumping on the SWMBO escape time afforded by a L&S cook.  Did someone say , "Priceless?"  ;)

this is one of the reasons why you are one of my favorites around these parts.....you get the whole picture @lousubcap
Just bought an Egg?  Here is what you get to look forward to now:

Plate Setter, FlameBoss 200, Spider, PSWOO-CI, Additional Rig Shelf for dome cooking, Thermapen, iGrill2, Cast Iron, Blackstone, Cooking Accessories for the Blackstone, Cover for the Egg and the Blackstone, shopping for Rub like a fine wine or IPA, and a new fascination with lump and what brand is the best-all to be debated every Friday Night.  Next desires-Joetisceriie, Adjustable Rig, Grillmates, table and more eggs

  • I've had the Egg for about 2 months now and love it.  Actually don't even use my propane grill or electric smoker anymore unless I'm hosting a big party and cooking a lot of food.

Havent tried any turbo cooks yet, but you've peaked my interest.  I will be doing some searching.   Where do you guys get your recipes and cooking techniques from?

And yes time off the full time job of making her happy is priceless my friend hahaha.

@TommyMacPherson -  I hit the search function on the home page for the first cut.  It is much better over the past several months.  That said, google and in addition to your specific query add 'big green egg", or "egghead forum" for another source of info.
Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey.  Above all, have fun and don't run out of adult supervisory beverages.
