i have a 9 pound Boston Butt in the freezer.
Any idea how long it needs to defrost before I can put a rub on it and do a low and slow cook?

Fill the sink with water and put the butt in- should thaw in a couple hours at most.

0 minutes. You can put it on frozen solid. The rub won't stick right out of the freezer, pull it off the egg after an hour and then apply the rub and put it back on. Or use mustard as a binder for the rub. From frozen will take 2 hours or so longer than thawed.They/Them

But you if your going low and slow you don't need to worry about it being fully thawed

Hmmm.
My normal process is to rub then set it in the fridge overnight. Sounds like putting mustard or olive oil on it then the rub and letting it sit overnight in the fridge would work fine.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

No reason at all that wouldn't work.SaintJohnsEgger said:Hmmm.

That's they way I tend to do a fast thaw. Fill the sink with cold water and place something heavy on top to keep it submerged. While a couple of hours will not completely thaw the butt, you'll be able to put on your rub and place it in the fridge for overnight.Wolfpack said:Fill the sink with water and put the butt in- should thaw in a couple hours at most.

I'd just count on adding additional cook time if you put in frozen“There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.”
