Used Charbroil Center Cut for today's cook.

I wanted to grill steaks today; so fast and hot seemed to be the way to go. I filled to the bottom of the ring with Charbroil Center Cut (yes, the one from Lowes that every one is talking about).
I left the bottom vent open and the top open. I lit it with two fire cubes and left the lid up for the first 10 minutes until things were going good. I went in to get the steaks ready and when I came back out 15 minutes later I was shocked and confused. The dome thermometer was sitting on zero. Huh? That's weird.
Then it hit me. I had maxed out the thermometer with a temp of over 800*. This stuff burns hot and fast.
the stakes were cooked for about 2 minutes on each side then I pulled them. They were dusted with GSP and were awesome. I'm getting good results with my cooks but It seems more like good luck more than skill.

Great looking steaks brother.

The greatest barrier against all wisdom, the stronghold against knowledge itself, is the single thought, in ones mind, that they already have it all figured out. -
I was surprised how hot it got and how fast it got there. I shut it down immediately after I finished and I still have most of it left to reuse. Not sure how it would do with low and slow.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

Keep an eye on that wood table with temps like that.Jacksonville FL

Try it with an open mind. Use it for a quick, hot cook. It burns clean very quickly unlike RO or RW. You'll be sitting at the table eating (or whatever you do) vs other lump still waiting to burn off the smoke. I have had 21 cooks on the Char-Broil lump and still on my first box.SGH said:Great looking steaks brother.

Put a paver stone under the egg to protect that wood. It will eventually ignite if you don't!Dustin - Macon, GA

Did my first and second cooks with the Center Cut today, Pizza for lunch, wings and chicken thighs tonight. Very nice heat. Can't wait to see what will be left in the morning after the cook down. The pizza cook got up to over 800, had to watch it closeNorthern New Jersey

SaintJohnsEgger. Lit the Egg with the Char-Broil lump and 15 minutes went by. Went outside and the Egg was showing 100*; that never happened using this lump. Opened the dome and it was blaring. Noticed the temperature gauge was spinning counter-clockwise. I realized the Egg was well over 900*. There was no hint it was that hot since it burns so clean; no smoke what so ever. This lump does not burn like firewood or other lump; no flames. Just a red hot fire.

I have been working my way through mine for shorter high temp cooks. It really just creates heat in my opinion. No smoke flavor at all if you don't add any wood chips. I also don't expect a short hot cook to create much of a flavor either.
It definitely has has its place and a purpose, as do most things I suppose.Just bought an Egg? Here is what you get to look forward to now:
Plate Setter, FlameBoss 200, Spider, PSWOO-CI, Additional Rig Shelf for dome cooking, Thermapen, iGrill2, Cast Iron, Blackstone, Cooking Accessories for the Blackstone, Cover for the Egg and the Blackstone, shopping for Rub like a fine wine or IPA, and a new fascination with lump and what brand is the best-all to be debated every Friday Night. Next desires-Joetisceriie, Adjustable Rig, Grillmates, table and more eggs
