PS4 Pro vs Xbox One S

I currently have 2 older PS3's in our home now.  One is my old one I got years ago for me and the other we got a couple years ago for my sons play room.  My 7 year old son has been asking about getting an Xbox to play Halo and other games.  He won't play with his current PS3 unless I play with him or he has a friend over.  I was thinking of upgrading to one of these since they are now doing up scaling to 4K and I am looking to getting a projector that is 4K up scaling for the home theater I am building.  The PS4 Pro only plays 4K games and will not play HD 4K Blu-Ray movies.  The Xbox One S does have a HD 4K up-scale Blu-ray player built into it.  Gamestop also tells me that that Xbox have more games for kids then the PS4.  I have never played an Xbox and this would be a learning experience for both of us.  I am looking at getting the 500GB hard drive and use an external HD when it gets full to save money.  Both 500GB systems are at $299, but Xbox has the HD player.

Now I also have to sell the wife on this and the thought is to trade in the newer PS3 and games we are not playing to get money back after Christmas.

What are your thoughts on this?  I think we will use it more then the current PS3's we have and the movie quality will be better.  Am I wasting me time and should I wait till more 4K content is out?  4K Blu-ray players start at $250, so to me the Xbox One S is the way to go.

I personally enjoy Xbox over PS4.  One thing you will have to keep in mind though is if you want your Xbox to do anything online you will have to get their Xbox Live subscription where as the PlayStation is free.

    Xbox for sure.
  • Just be aware that Microsoft has Project Scorpio coming next year as a replacement/upgrade for the Xbox.

Gamsesptop is a ripoff - trade in older ps3 (don't think you'll get more $ for the newer one) at bestbuy - I'm a PlayStation guy but sounds like you should go with Xbox since your sons wanting to halo it up online with friends

Halo, at 7 years old?  Seen my teens play that game and lots of violence in there and weird stuff.    They are 21 and 24 now and no longer play either the Xbox or PS3, it's only PC (alianware) now.   But having said that, they used to play the Xbox more than the PS3 back 'in the day'

I switched to PS4 because they own the rights to baseball games. I can't offer any other help than that

The PS4 pro is the only one that upscales games to 4k (or simulated 4k).  (the Xbox S supports 4k, but not for games).  The comparable Xbox system is the Scorpio, which won't be out til late next year.  Playstation Plus (online) is no longer free.

I hear there will be a Black Friday special for the PS4 slim (non-4k) for $250 + 3 free games.

I have both.  When it comes down to it, it's best to get the system that your (son's) friends play on.

Thanks everyone for the input and your thoughts on the gaming systems coming out.  From what I have leaned about the Xbox One S is it sounds good and the 4K Blu-ray would be nice, it won't do Dolby Atmos.  The Scorpio looks very interesting and I believe it is worth the wait.

My son's friend play on both the PS4 and Xbox and I would like one of the newer systems so we could play the newer better games, but I am not sure it is worth it.  I know my wife doesn't think so.  I did find this from Best Buy for Black Friday.  Some good deals and my kid and I would probably be happy with either one.  I may just get one and ask for forgiveness later from the wife.  Gamestop is not saying what they have going, but in the past it usually beat what Best Buy had from my experience.  I will wait and see.  Right now we only use my older PS3 to watch movies in the home theater I am building. I will let you know what I decide to do.  The wife has already said no to getting a new projector right now and there is a lot to do on the home theater.
