XL Egg Table - Concrete Countertops

My dad and I just finished a table for his XL. We were stuck in the planning phase for quite some time trying to figure out a countertop we could both agree on. We ended up using concrete countertops and couldn't be happier. The rest of the table is just pressure treated pine and corrugated tin. We will probably stain later on when we can agree on a color.

Did you pour the counters in place, or in forms and flip them onto the table? What was your polishing routine?MMBGE / Large BGE / XL BGE (Craigslist Find) / SF30x80 cabinet trailer - "Ol' Mortimer" / Outdoor kitchen in progress.

Looking good. Curious why you left front open but not all the way.

That is a very cool looking table. Bravo!“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk

@CTMike the countertops were poured in melamine forms and then put on the table after they cured. Because the melamine provided a smooth enough surface for us, we didn't bother with wet grinding. We just took a random orbital sander and some 180 grit sandpaper and got after it. The stain took to it just fine after sanding a bit.

@Tspud1 we honestly went with the open design in the middle because we were worried about trying to lift the egg into a table with a more closed off design. Lucky for us, an employee at our local Ace Hardware lent us a tool they use to move eggs around (basically a metal ring with handles on either side that fits snugly under the lip just below lid) so maneuvering the egg in the table was nbd.
