I've decided to cook a whole hog for the Texas A&M/Arkansas game and I was wondering what tips you guys had for this cook?
Ive read about 10 threads so far and wanted to see if anyone had a favorite thread about this topic. Thanks!

Please tell me you're doing the hog on the Egg. If so, pics please.

Are you doing a "suckling pig", or a "whole hog"? Someone here did a suckling pig, and had to do something medieval to the spine to get it to fit, it looked comical/grotesque, but it worked. Hopefully he/she will respond.

An XL BGE. I assume a suckling pig is all I can fit. Sorry for confusion.

If I remember correctly, someone took 2-3 vertebrae out of the middle of the spine to allow the pig to fold in half.

I did a 23 pound piglet on my XL 5 or 6 years ago. It fit nicely and the results were outstanding. I did it indirect at 325 and spritzed it down with apple juice/apple cider vinegar about every 30 minutes for the last half of the cook. I pulled it all and chopped the skin to add to the pulled pork. I think it was the best barbecue I ever produced on my XL and my family said the same thing. Good luck with your cook!

Honestly, I'd ditch the Egg, go by some cinder blocks and make an inexpensive pit, it will be a lot easier and come out better IMHO..If you have the room, this is the way to goVisalia, Ca @lkapigian

I haven't done a suckling pig in an egg. I have cooked a few whole hogs on Meadow Creek pig roasters, both rented PR-60, and this year on a non-rented PR-72T. I dump a good bit of cheap rub in the cavity and then go indirect around 250* until it hits pulling temps. Time depends on size. The smallest I've done is around 90lbs, so not sure that would fit on an XL.
Here's a 93# dressed pig (among other stuff) I cooked back in July.

And here's all the pics I took of a 224# one I did a few weeks ago.
