Slow smoked with apple wood chips, indirect at 250 to internal temp of 170. Turned out very good. Used Weber Kick'n Chicken Seasoning.

Local grocery store has quarters on sale this coming week for .59/lb. Here in Fairfield County that is unheard of cheap. Usually happy with .99/lb. I think I will pick up 3 10# boxes for the chest freezer. Great looking chicken, btw! I have not cooked chicken at low temp yet. How does it compare to direct 375* cooked pieces? 30#s will allow me to experiment with time/temp, smoke profile, and rubs/finishing sauces.

Great looking chicken ole buddy. Chicken quarters and chicken halves are two of my favorite things to cook. They are cheap, easy to prepare and cook, and when done right they are phenomenal. For an outstanding job my friend:

ShopRite has them in the flier for next week. I am in Norwalk. Never been to Ferraro's. New Haven is a bit far to shop. But I will check them out online tonight to see what they are all about!

Seems to me indirect, low and slow comes out really tender and smokey but not as juicy as direct. Maybe because direct seals in the juices, but I'm just guessing.CtTOPGUN said:Local grocery store has quarters on sale this coming week for .59/lb. Here in Fairfield County that is unheard of cheap. I think these were on for about three hours, but I cook to temp, so I was not really paying attention to how long they were on.MeTed said:Looks beautiful! How long to cook? -

Forgot to mention, these were .49 cents per pound in a 10lb bag. Put some in the freezer for later. With steak at $8 to $12 per pound, I am enjoying chicken more often, and the quarters are often on sale. I have always preferred dark meat chicken, so it is a win-win, with savings and good eating too.
