OT - Hot Sauce

I love me some heat and fell in love with Marie sharps while on my honeymoon in Belize a few years ago. With that said I was lucky to find it at the Nashville farmers market so we make a run every month to restock. Saw a new one this last time and had to try it. Smoking Marie's smoked habanero hot sauce. If you are close to Nashville and like heat get it. So what's you latest favorite tongue burners?

I brought back a few different bottles of that when I was in Belize a couple years ago.  Great stuff!

Is it as hot as it appears to be?
  • Well their other levels are my standard hot sauce for eggs, tacos, wings and so forth and I typically use their beware or no wimps allowed which is their hottest. This is less heat than those but it all depends on your tolerance. Still has has a great kick but once again I shouldn't judge on heat level for others since I also came home with this..... And grew these peppers for a while.

I did the same thing during a visit to Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Brought back several different types of unique hot sauces.  I like it hot.  I like it "grab my beer" hot, but not "run to the bathroom" hot.  There seems to be a fine line between the two ...

The one on Rosa Parks? We're going down Sat.
  • But I will say I get a nice flushed face, runny nose, and slight sweat with these hot sauces. The perfect amount of all three not the "I want to die" level. Not counting the ghost chili flakes, those will kill and I use in chili only. Sometimes corn bread.

Both Walkerswood and Grace make several Scotch Bonnet pepper sauces that are delicious. Easy to find too - even up here. Heat, but not JUST heat. Great flavor too.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Yes sir, that exact one. In the market house in the international market. You won't be sorry if you like heavy smoke and habanero. They have small bottles as you see in my pic of most flavors. I haven't had one I don't like.

I can stand hot. What I don't like is something that is only intense pain.
I once tried a 357 Magnum sauce at Firehouse subs. I have never before or since had anything like that. They said a lady at another location had to go to the hospital from it. It was pure intense pain that wouldn't quit.
I think there is a number of 357 Magnum heat level sauces available.

This is NOT that. Great flavor and heat balance. What we need is a hot sauce exchange. Just throwing it out there.......

I have the Marie Sharp's on the table as we speak.
Come the fall I will get a batch of Carolina reapers, a few ghosts and habaneros from a friend to smoke down to the high heat version of chipotles once ground up.  Definitely " little goes quite a long way" but worth it.  If you have a chance give the process a go.  FWIW-
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

@cazzy runs the bbq sauce exchange, maybe he would be willing to setup a hot sauce one.
  • To make it kosher and none OT, sauce is exchanged then a wing cook and make a sauce out of the hot sauce that you received and post back describing cook and flavor. I think that's a cool idea personally.

I'm working through a bottle of Beware that a friend gave me, and  love it. Great well-balanced hot sauce. Another friend claims he has cloned the Habanero Pepper Sauce, and I should get to try some this weekend.

My two adult sons and myself have belonged to a hot sauce of the month club and it is fun to get new heat every month. Some are more flavor, some can be a tad nasty hot. I have a favorite that I got in my first year with the club that has good heat but also good flavor. Not to easy to get both in one bottle. It's called Pure Poison.
    https://www.amazon.com/Pure-Poison-Hot-Sauce/dp/B0007WK1VY/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1470242106&sr=8-1&keywords=pure+poison+hot+sauce

So our kitchen table always 5-6 bottles on it and whenever you have a repair man etc in the house, they always stop and take a look see. Last guy pointed to the bottles and asked, Umm like hot sauce? Duh

I am a big fan of this....not truly a hot sauce in the purest sense....but adds great flavor with a kick.

John....not at all. I think it is more about flavor that heat. The tamarind and vinegar gives it a little tartness while the sugar cane, raisins and mangoes bring some sweetness. In all, it is a well balanced sauce with great flavor.

@johnmitchell I have a buddy who says they have a Mango option now. I have not tried it myself, but my buddy says it is outstanding.
