OT - Regal Carolina Classic Hot Dog

Been meaning to try the hot dogs from SRF and had a grand idea to kick them up a notch.

Decided to do classic NC hot dog (mustard, chili, slaw, onion), but on a King's Hawaiian roll(s) (three of them).  Sliced down the center and spread butter on the cut side and placed on the Blackstone to crisp up.

Paired with some cold oil fries, this was a pretty good hot dog.  Flavor of the dog was very rich and meaty.

Here's some pictures.

1 - The dogs

2 - Dogs on the BS,  Didn't want to grill them because I wanted to see what the flavors tasted like without any other flavors.  As noted, they're tasty!

3 - These things are huge.  I added a bit of water to steam them and some cracked.  Still good.

4 - Rolls on

5 -

6 -

Thanks for taking a look.

I don't think it's even fair to call that it a hot dog. Way to take a (presumably) great product and crank it up about three notches. Very impressive.

Looks like a sure winner from here, Matthew! Mind sharing with us the cost of those franks?...I kinda assume were they part of a larger order so S & H isn't really part of the cost I was getting at!

@RRP , I cannot remember exactly, it was part of an order, and possibly were thrown in at the time.  Website indicates $16 currently, but they do run specials a lot.

Brother tar, that looks might fine to me. There is not much that I enjoy more than a half dozen dogs or so.

Brother, I don't know if you could do half a dozen of these.  Don't punk me when I say this, but one of these and some fries had me full.

Yes sir!  Same with hamburger too, even Wendy's has this on their menu from time-to-time.

    From Our State Magazine.

    https://www.ourstate.com/12-recipes-every-north-carolinian-should-know/

    Carolina Dogs

North Carolinians love a Carolina dog “all the way” — topped with chili, slaw, onions, and mustard. Nothing more, and nothing less.

These toppings also sit well on a burger to create a Carolina Burger. This flavor combo is so popular that Wendy’s restaurants in North Carolina once offered a special Carolina Classic Burger in honor of UNC basketball. We appreciate that nod to our tradition, but aficionados know that the best Carolina burgers and Carolina dogs are found in mom-and-pop places and backyards across the state.

Very nice looking dogs Matt.  They make kings hawaiian hot dog buns but I haven't been able to find them lately.  Great idea to just use a row of 3 rolls.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Thanks man.  I didn't know they made buns, but will be on the look out for them.  Wasn't a big hassle at all slicing these.  Used the trusty Dexter scalloped knife (brisket knife), went to about halfway, and folded over carefully.  I really liked the bun a lot.

The KH hot dog buns are the new england style with a cut side so they would be good on the blackstone.  This isn't mine just a random interweb pic.

This one is mine...dog and bun grilled on the egg.  Topped with slaw and grilled pineapple.

That's a nice looking dog too buddy!  I'll be on the look out.  I really liked having this bun for the hot dog like this.  Especially with the buttered and toasty interior and exterior.

Typically, a Jesse Jones type (red) hot dog would be red, but this is regal (I know I said classic), but there's variations of even the classic.  In my neck of the woods, we use red slaw instead of white (mayonnaise based).

They sure have Fish.  There's a NASCAR track in Virginia that changed manufactures and didn't go over so well.

The buns, you can just buy the pack of 12 rolls and remove three at a time and slice it if you cannot find them.

I'll be looking out for the buns too.

I just ate one of these for lunch, dam it was good.
