Blueberry wood for smoking?

YukonRon
YukonRon Posts: 17,261
My wonderful neighbor pulled up a massive blueberry bush and was going to toss it. I stopped her from doing so, at least until I asked this forum if it had any value for smoking on the BGE.
Anyone try this wood before on a cook? Should I direct to the fire pit as a fire starter?
Thank you in advance.

Toss some in the next cook as the fire is coming up to temp and you'll have yer answer. :)

can't think of a reason why not.

Shouldn't be an issue, lot like a grape vine.  If you are worried about off flavored, try a WSM or Offset and not the egg - if you can.  I've never used BB, sorry I can't be of more help.

    I'd use it.

If it bares fruit or nuts you can smoke with it.

Here's a great reference to different woods and the flavors they impart.  Blueberry not listed, but blackberry is.

I am doing some wings tonight for the weekly nèighborhood party. I usually will do them with pecan. I will try it tonight, if it works out, and nobody dies, a full report will follow. Think it will be kind of cool to serve up and see.

You should definitely report if someone dies, too.  ;)

But seriously, this sounds interesting.  Please update!

Thinking I would be the one that dies, since being the selfish person I am, the majority of those wings will likely be consumed prior to delivery to the event this evening.......I love wings off the big green egg.

Did the blueberry smoke with wings for tonights party. Personaly, pecan, peach, amongst others, is my go to, by far are my faves, however the smoked wings, tonight, were gone, within minutes. Less than 5, no BS.
Very soft, smoke favor,a bit nutty,a bit sweet. Everyone asked what they were smoked with.
    I give it a 7 of 10.
