XL Griddle Reccomendations

My wife asked me yesterday about potential Father's Day Gift's and I mentioned to her I wouldn't mind having a griddle for my egg.  Mainly to put a good sear on a steak or a piece of fish but I guess I could potentially sauté some veggies or even do breakfast sometime.

My question to you guys is what's the best griddle?  The BGE one?  I have always thought I wanted cast iron but I also see this Little Griddle Kettle Q?  Does anyone have experience with those - they are Stainless Steel.  What would be advantages of stainless vs cast iron?  Just mainly looking for suggestions on best griddle for egg and experiences you guys have with fit, finish, cooking performance, etc.

What you want is a good Lodge Cast Iron Skillet---now they make a couple to look at. 12", 15", and a 17" round paella pan--with D handles. Your choice. I wouldnt bother with anything other than cast iron. But then again, I don't own anything else for skillets dutches or griddles so I am biased.

I just picked up the bge half moon griddle for my XL last weekend.  Little pricey at about $90, but the surface area is huge.  I used to just throw a CI pan on,  but this half moon with the CI grates on the other side is a great combo for me.

Yes, I was just about to suggest this too.  I have a couple Lodge cast iron skillets (12" and 17") that I use for searing.  I prefer using a skillet - over a griddle or grid - for searing, as it allows me to baste the meat during the searing process.  For example, I like to throw some butter and Rosemary in the skillet...  It definitely kicks the flavor up a notch (or two).

I have two XL moon griddles and two lodge CI pans, one a 8" and a 15". From my perspective they both have good uses however I mainly use the CI pans, go with as big of one as you can afford/fit and you will never look for a griddle.

I wouldn't give up either one.  Both have their uses.

I have the kettle q and really like it. I don't use it a whole lot though.

Here is the one I use, if you are looking for cast iron griddle.

It is a lodge, it is 14 3/4 from outside to outside of the cooking area. The diameter from outside 18 1/2 from outside of handle to handle.

I also recommend the Lodge 17" Skillet with loop handles. Fits the XL just right. I took an orbital sander to the inside cooking surface to smooth it out then reseasoned. It's not a Wagner or Griswold but cooks extremely well and costs far less.

It's large enough that I can cook several pancakes, eggs and bacon on it at the same time. Also great to cook fajita meats and vegetables for a group. I use it on the lower ring of my woo to create an indirect setup for reverse seared steaks and by putting it in at the beginning it is pre-heated for the sear. It's reversible too if you are into grill marks on your food. For smaller cooks I have cast iron pans.

Save your money on a griddle and just use get a cast iron skillet. The skillet will fill more roles than the griddle.

Thanks guys.  I have a couple of several cast iron skillets and use them.

Question:  I love the look of that kettle Q.  What stainless sear meat as good as cast iron?  What would be +/-?  Ive always been a cast iron fan - this is more hibachi style.
