New Backwoods G2 Party - Testing Rib Recipe
EggSmokeVa
Posts: 378
Purchased a gently used Backwoods smoker from a fellow egghead.. Firing it up for the first time today to test some tweaks to my rib recipe.

One slab coated in yellow mustard.. The other just apple cider vinegar.. Two different versions of my usual rub too.
Going on the smoker at 275 until they're done! Using Apple and cherry wood. More pics to come ..happy Saturday everyone

Very nice love my backwoods. You probably know but it's possible to run it as a stick burner with small splits. Can't wait to see the pics you running it with water?
-
Guy I brought it from runs it with the water pan filled with sand... Trying that first.. Then I'll try water next and decide which one I like bestLit said:Very nice love my backwoods. Sweet. I run a Chubby G2 for Competition. I love my Backwoods. I always run mine wi
th water, may have to give sand a try. -
I really like the water option with the fatboy I can drain some water mid cook and add cold water to drop the temp if I need to. My pan isn't removable so I had never thought of sand. Ribs look great.
-
Lit you can simply sit a large, disposable aluminum pan in your water pan and fill it with sand if you want to avoid the clean up hassle. It will work almost equally as well. I have done it with 2 pans in my Vault.Lit said:I really like the water option with the fatboy I can drain some water mid cook and add cold water to drop the temp if I need to. The greatest barrier against all wisdom, the stronghold against knowledge itself, is the single thought, in ones mind, that they already have it all figured out. -
Ribs cooked pretty fast... These are definitely going to be fall of the bone.. But that's what the family prefers anyway... (I like mine closer to competition style) but it's all good... Pics to comeLarge BGE

Next time I'll have to wrap for 45 mins or so.. These were fairly thick spares so I figured they'd be ok... But that's how the game goes some times lolLarge BGE

Looks awesome!“There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.”

It's hard to be certain if the onions add flavor or not... My gut tells me yes... It's definitely worth a try... The smell is amazing.4Runner said:Large BGE
