Identify tree
my wife loves the leaves of this tree and thinks I will dig up the tree when we move later this summer. I am really interested in identifying the tree so I can just get a new one planted at the new place. I think it is an oak of some type, but not really certain which one. Thanks for looking.

Yup, mulberry. And if you plant 1, soon you will likely have dozens, and they are almost impossible to kill

I had always heard they are undesirable. Like a weed with bark.
I can't remember why, but my tree guy told me to get rid of mine. He cited some reasoning. I can't remember now.

I'm used to fruitless mulberry trees in the west - real shallow root systems, notorious for f'n with plumbing and concreteLove you bro!

Junk tree!!! I grew up with one and it is a mess as others have already told you!

Just to cut the mulberry some slack, it makes a good smoking wood. I carve walking sticks as a hobby, and the abandoned lots around me give me a steady supply of fast growing, straight young branches. Its decent for smallish item wood working. Just nasty as a yard tree.

Recently staged some black cherry and mulberry for processing. Growing like a weed is a good thing. This new fangled KBQ project is a ton of work. And I haven't even split and cut it yet.
Awesome with pork, but then again, what isn't.BrandonQuad Cities

Most people don't like them because they have a shallow root system that has been know around here to mess with irrigation and sewer plumbing. They do grow fast and have fruitless varieties as well.

Mulberry. Makes good firewood. Other than that it's pest. The berries drop on the ground and make the area around the tree unusable for part of the summer. Birds love to eat the berries and then drop purple presents on your siding and car. Cut it down while small. They grow very fast.Weber Kettle, Weber Genesis Silver B, Medium Egg, KJ Classic (Black)
