OT Muhammad Ali in Hospital OT
The time in the hospital is not expected to be long, and the stay is related to Parkinson's which he has battled for sometime now.
Just an observation from someone in Kentucky that grew up watching this man, from Louisville....
There is a photo of Ali and Nelson Mandela shaking hands. It is rather significant, and I believe to have been captured by a photo journalist from Kentucky. I was told it was the first time either had met, and both had shared something they were both very good at, and intimate with; Boxing.
In most images captured of Ali, taken as photo ops, he was pleased to meet the people he shook hands with, using only one hand, for the picture. The image with Mandela showed him using two hands to shake Nelson’s. They shared much more than boxing. Very few images exist of Ali using both hands to shake another's.
Hate him should you want, or appreciate him for what he was, it does not matter. He was the most recognizable person on earth, stayed true to his principles and beliefs while sacrificing much, as he lived his life and spoke his mind, in an era that most of his race, had no other voice, as well as, fearing to ask for equality.
Hero or heathen, your free choice to decide. He stood among royalty and celebrity. He helped initiate change and understanding, he fought against a war and prejudice. Maybe he helped make the world a bit better for a few folks, and in doing so, he made the world better for many of us.
Nobody, was better. Ali was the greatest, and he is from the United States. The land of the free, because of the brave.

The best picture in my mind of Ali is simple. His daughter is in Waylon Jennings hands while he looks on with approval. Waylon wasn't a racist and neither was Ali. Its in Waylon's autobiography. Public perception is generally way off base. And yeah, Ali was all that and several bags of chips. He was "the greatest" in what he did and the change that came because of him and others. Been one of my few heroes since I was a kid. And that was a long time ago.....

Been a big fan of Muhammed Ali (aka Cassius Clay) since I saw him (tape delayed I'm sure at the 1960 Olympics in Rome, IT-yes I'm old). And the tabloids did use his Muslim name with the aka moniker for quite some time after he converted to Islam. He and his go 'rounds with Howard Cosell were pure entertainment back then.
Definitely transcended sports and has earned a place on the stage of world greats. A humanitarian and social difference maker of monumental proportions. @YukonRon writes it much better.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -

What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. [or sting as hard?]

Hi repartee with Howard Cossell was awesome. His skills as a pugilist unmatched.
I believe he believed what he said when he was a C.O., but many will still consider him a draft dodger. There were a lot of men who didn't 'have no feud with the Viet Cong' who still stood and served. -

Who knows how much we missed while he was banned during his prime.“There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.”

We lost his trainer, Angelo Dundee, a few years ago. He was another one of a kind and lived in the Tampa Bay area for a long time. He was always approachable and ready to talk the sweet science at the drop of a hat!
