I live in Central Maine and just purchased a Large BGE last week! I have had my eye on one for a few years and finally pulled the trigger. It was delivered and assembled yesterday afternoon and it had lump in it and was lit within 30 minutes! I have already purchased the Smokeware Cap and Adjustable Rig, any other "must haves" to get me going? Looking forward to spending lots of time ( and money) on this new hobby!

Welcome aboard. My only suggestion is to resist the urge to load up on extras until you have a few cooks under your belt. I think we all have accessories we don't use.
Chicken looks great and it appears you've got a nice even glow coming from the charcoal. My first direct grilling effort had a very small effective cooking area.Stillwater, MN -

Thermapen, Pizza stone, Remote thermometer, after you have mastered stabilizing temps - a temp controller unit, Cast Iron Dutch oven for chili, etc., grill mats and an A-Maz-N smoker box for smoking cheese and what not. A spider and a Wok, A Large CI pan that will fit, Paella pan... of course there is more.

If you plan to do ribs and/or butts, get a platesetter (and some disposable drip pans).
You can do indirect with firebricks, but the platesetter is easier.
If you want to do pizza, get a pizza stone
Oh, and some sort of BBQ pad to protect that nice wooden deck from stray lump falling out if the bottom vent: http://www.homedepot.com/p/The-Original-Grill-Pad-30-in-Round-Berry-Black-Deck-Protector-GP-30-C-BK/202448220

Welcome and great looking cook and cooking area. I would recommend a good pair of oven mitt/gloves. I have the BGE glove and works fine.Dave

Welcome and congratulations!!!
I would say a thermapen and some high heat gloves. I never used a thermapen when BBQing and ended up getting one thanks to this forum and their ability to spend my money. To be honest it is probably one of the best accessories I purchased for the egg.XLBGE, MMBGE, CyberQ -
Welcome. Nothing like that new Egg feeling.

Welcome! I'm new to the BGE world too. Thermapen is the most useful accessory I've purchased so far, but I have to also agree with the ConvEGGtor (aka plate setter) recommendation. Your BGE is only 1/2 as useful without the ability to cook indirect.Jeremiah | La Canada Flintridge, CA | XL BGE

Get a safe. Put your cash there. The real expense of the BGE is not the purchase, it is owning it. Wallet Genocide follows.
Seriously, though, have fun and welcome to the forum!"Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Thanks for the input! I think the Thermapen will definitely be a purchase I make in the near future. I have the oval stone that came with the adjustable rig for indirect cooking purposes. Is the BGE plate setter something I should still consider?LBGE

welcome aboard! Thermapen is the only for sure, everything else is personal preference. A lot depends on what you like to cook, and how much you like gadgets!Central Valley CA One large egg One chocolate lab "Halle" two chiuahuas "Skittles and PeeWee"

@oldfaithful - if you have the oval stone you don't need the plate setter. Mine has been in the box since my adjustable rig arrived.
Welcome aboard. In addition to the thermapen I vote for a pizza stone. I have an Emile Henry that I got a steal on from woot but lots of people go with the BGE stone.
Also, not sure where your Egg is in relation to storage, but I'd start thinking about that. Once you start getting smoking woods, accessory racks, etc, etc., you need space.

This may be a given for many but DO NOT buy your Thermapen on Amazon it is so much more $$$. Buy directly from ThermoWorks. Also they are having a 15% discount using code offer 15offsitewide. I buy a lot of items on Amazon but finding on a lot of bbq items it definitely isn't cheaper.Large Green Egg

Welcome to the Lifesyle. The least expensive part of your journey is over with the purchase of your BGE. Wallet genocide is next.
