David Gilmore

Every now and then we fall in a bucket of $hit, and come out smelling like a rose. The company I work for is taking over the management of concessions an restaurant in the iconic Hollywood Bowl. The next two nights, the Bowl will be hosting David Gilmore of Pink Floyd fame. Today, I had the pleasure of listening to an extended sound check / Rehursal while making final tweaks to the technology supporting our business. His sound check was unbelievable.. I will be taking in the full shows over the next couple of nights ( assuming all goes well on the work front). What am Expierence.....hope to post a few good shots. Stoked to say the least.

I laugh out loud at the stuff that passes for music today. Here is the only thing that comes close to the brilliance of Pink Floyd.

My Beautiful Wife and I will follow both Waters and Gilmore anywhere. We are in the midst of a home refi and refurb, or we would be there.
Her sister, saw them at The Berlin Wall.

    Enjoy!

Waters was the driving force, the one who really wanted to make Floyd a theatrical experience, elaborate sets, visual effects, etc.  Gilmour just wanted to play, which is completely fine.  It's a shame that their egos, and fame, got in the way.  At least the artist, and musician, are on decent terms.

Saw Brit Floyd recently, holistically, I don't think anyone could cover them better.  Simply put, it was amazing.  Felt so good to hear and see these songs done right.  I will see them again.

Even though I have not seen them live(yet), tool's artistic brilliance is equal, if not better.  MJK is the Waters of today.

Very sweet.  I was lucky enough to see Floyd in Nashville around 91 in an outdoor concern.  Wow it was amazing.   One of my favorite 6-7 concerts along with Clapton multiple times, SRV, Journey, ABB, Govt Mule, Bob Seger, Neal Young.   Great tunes.

I just can't get into cover bands, or tribute bands.  I don't get the draw.

Draw inspiration from them and make some new music for floyd fans to enjoy.  Same with Dark Star Orchestra or any similar bands.  I understand there are fans that are more than willing to pay to see them, but that is not me.

It is easy to play a great song, much much much harder to write one yourself.

Funny story:  When I was a senior, we went to London for our class trip.  On the way back, we were waiting for our plane at Heathrow and me and a buddy spotted David Gilmore.  We went up and asked for an autograph and he kindly obliged.  Some dopey girls in my class saw us and, even though they had no idea who he was, all ran over and started asking for his autograph as well.  Like a gentleman, he signed for all of them.  Finally, my best friend who was the biggest Floyd fan of us all, saw what was happening and rushed over.  Mr. Gilmore must have had enough because by the time my best friend got to him and asked for an autograph, Gilmore said "Sorry, but I've done enough work for one day," and walked off.  My friend was bummed but I laughed my butt off.  I can remember him saying that like it was yesterday!  To this day I still bust my friend's chops about it!

I would have loved to seen a pedalboard photo but I am sure you could not get that. Plus, I am pretty sure he just has an on board switcher with his pedals in the rack on slide out trays.  (Kicks dirt)

Heard about 2/3 of it in sound check yesterday. Several tunes from the Devision Bell LP.
