Treager help

Buddy got a little drunk and passed out.  He needs a brisket on at 2.  Do  just turn the temp gauge to 225 and turn it on?

From what the rep told me at Costco, load up the hopper and set it to smoke for 10 minutes or so until the pellets in the burn area are going, leaving the lid open. Then, shut the lid and let it stabilize for a few minutes until it's around the desired temp and move the setting to the cook temp.

Let us know how it turns out.  I've cooked on one once and the brisket was world class.  Having a small fire in the center of the grill that such that the rising heat is well-blocked is a good design.

@Ozzie_Isaac - Congrats on riding in for the rescue.  Guess you throttled back anticipating the "dark and stormy" night ahead.  Sounds like a good call-your reward should be the point of the brisket.  He can enjoy the flat ;)

What?! Pellets are what rabbits leave behind. You should have dumped in some lump, lit it up and apologized later :)

I saw a brand called Memphis grills recently, nice looking unit

Went over this morning to show him how to probe.  He has always cooked to temp.  He was going to pull at 190, it wasn't SRF gold so it still needed time.

Also brought butcher paper for wrapping :)

Regarding wrapping, I always default to the AF wrap video and have come to realize that it is the cook's call for the most part.  Every variable with a cook results in a slightly different end result.  Go with your eggsperience and enjoy.
BTW- @Ozzie_Isaac you had better come home with the point  ;)

I was in Home Depot yesterday and there was a rep there pitching the machine. I took a quick look and he made a full court press to sell me.  I didn't say anything about being an egg owner; I just let him ramble on.  Kinda neat that it has built in temperature control.

hope the brisket came out well.

  • @blind99 Memphis Pellet Smokers are really nice. My egg dealer sells them. They are pricey. He had one for $4000. It had a searing plate for grilling. That is where the pellet grills fall short. They don't put off the BTU's for grilling.

Does the lack of pulse here mean it was "over the top" or "not worthy"?

I didn't get any to try.  He said it came out excellent.  It was for a family function.  He sent pics:

The cut had beautiful marbeling,  but was trimmed heavier than any full packer I have ever seen.

@Ozzie_Isaac ,  Many thanks for surfacing here-gotta admit that the Traeger did lay down an impressive smoke ring.  Great save on your part-I do believe he owes you, big time.

The Traeger was dead easy to setup.  The smoke ring it left and the smell of it running was phenomenal.

Strong work.  Your buddy should send you something from SRF.
