Door County Cherry Marinated Pork Chops

Since the missus was in the area, she stopped into @RRP's favorite yuppie meat market yesterday.  Came home with some "Door County Cherry Marinated Pork Chops."  Hmmm, damn those sound good ... 'bout the requisite 1.5" thick ... all the marinated stuff completed ... this is going to be awesome.

Pecan for smoke, Dizzy Pig Pineapple Head on one of the chops, nothing extra on the other.  Egg set up for direct cooking at 550* with the grill four inches above the felt line.  Usually cook for about 10 minutes on the first side and 8 minutes on the second side then probe with the thermapen and judge the remaining time necessary.  The window between almost there and damn it is kind of sort at that temp.

The mechanics happened as planned, the chops were done correctly, so off to the table for the final act.

Thought these things would be fantastic, but the cherry marinate kind of overpowered the taste of the meat.  Looks like I'm back to starting with plain old protein and controlling the entire operation again ...

@saluki2007 ... Pottstown Meat and Deli.  Please understand that I'm not picking on them, just this one offering.

The main reason I posted was not to tell folks I'm an idiot, but to see if others have had the same experience with commercially prepped meats for grilling.

Ha Ha - been a long time since someone associated me even remotely with the term yuppie!  We were DINKs, but never yuppies! BTW years ago Pottstown Deli which used to be hidden out there in tiny Pottstown was the ONLY store in the Peoria area that carried this weird product called "lump charcoal"!

That would go on my plate, and I'd be bragging.
