Egg in middle or on side?

Having a table made for LGE. Been looking at all the options on here, going with one that has storage and drawers, not open like many. My question for those that have, looking to be 6 ft long. Can either put egg on side to have long counter on right, or in middle to have smaller counter space on both sides. In my mind, having in middle will give me option to have cabinet on one side to hold coal and wood, drawers on other side for accessories. Anyone have opinion before I drop much more than the actual egg costs?

  • Side, IMHO. See my build in the link in my signature.

I say to the side. If your table is 6' long and you put the egg in the middle, that leaves you about 2' of table on each side. That's not a ton of space, particularly if you're cooking a large amount of food. I tend to like a lot of counter space. YMMV. You can put a drawer to hold the platesetter and such under the egg.
Plus, if you put it to the side, there's room to add a MMax at a later date. :)

  • I like the table but have to have one that is contained below to keep charcoal etc.  but I guess having in side gives you plenty of room. If in middle I would have about 2 feet on each side, just wondering if that's sufficient or set up with a lot of space like yours. Appreciate your feedback!

I prefer egg in the middle. 2' on left and 2' on right so I can prep on both sides.

To the side FOR SURE! When I built my table the popular length then was 60" so as to fit under a BGE brand table cover. Even though I only owned a large egg at the time I had a twinkle in my eye that some time in the future a small egg would join in. And sure enough it did so it was easy to retro fit my table. I made up for the lost side table space by adding a fold down shelf.

Side.    You'll need some space to plop your small/mini/MMax when you buy one...like everyone else.

Mine is in the middle and I like it. As far as food prep goes, all that is done inside. I have plenty of room on both sides and have never once thought that I didn't have enough room or wished I put it on the end.

If I wanted an egg table,,which I don't, I'd put the egg at one end or the other, but definitely not in the middle. For me, the ideal choice is a nest parked next to a plain side table. I see no reason to cut a big round hole in a perfectly good table.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

All great ideas here. It seems the consensus is to the side. I like the idea of having room to add another future Egg if out to the side. That's until I saw @Philly35 table. Now I'm rethinking my table.

My Beautiful Wife built our table. She chose to put our BGEs on opposite ends. She is a Feng Shui master and teaches classes for balance and peace.
Damn thing collapsed from too many flowers used as the center piece.
She is working on the next one. This time she is welding one together. Should be ready soon. MBW has got it going on.

Why have a "prep table" that isn't used for prep?  At that point why not roll w/ a nest and a small table to sit items on. My main reason for my table is prep and of course storage of egging/cooking toys.

Middle if it's 6ft table.  Here's a discussion I started a while ago. I explain why somethings were placed where they are. http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1189886/inside-one-of-tspud1-s-tables#latest

Neither. Buy a nest and build a dedicated prep table.

I put my egg in the left side. If it were in the middle, then there wouldn't be much room at all on either side for drawers.
