Broken thermometer

Hi Folks,
I recently moved and the shipping company cracked the thermometer on my egg. Does this affect the function of the thermometer in any way and does it need to be replaced or is it mostly aesthetic?
thanks!

I'd be thrilled they cracked the gauge and not the Egg!

This is very true!

New gauges are inexpensive compared to, say, a dome? I agree, I would sacrifice many gauges vs a crack in the BGE. Hope all else went we'll with the move."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

One of mine has no glass at all. Dropped it on the patio. Still works fine.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Check it's accuracy in boiling water. Should show 212 degrees, if not there is an adjustment nut on the back. One large BGE in Louisville, KY.

If it's going to get rain on it, then you'll have to turn the thermometer so the point of the crack (275*) is downward. Otherwise it'll collect water and cause problems. Micahel's no glass thermometer is probably a better deal from that standpoint.
If you're going to replace it then consider at this one: http://smokeware.com/collections/grill-accessories/products/black-smokeware-temperature-gauge I've been using one of their older models for a year and love it ... no fogging, easy to see from inside the house, reasonably inexpensive, and stays accurate.

DUH ... the PSA is to move the thermometer to the inside of the egg when turning it over to movers ... yes?

You shouldn't have any issues with temperature readings. Moisture might be an issue"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan
