no cooking this weekend, but I hd a chance to blow off some steam after church and pop off a few rounds with some good friends.

had the chance to shoot he 338 lapua. The same caliber used by the American sniper, Chris Kyle, and many other US snipers. Really fun experience. Cool to think that gun has kept this country safe.

Great way to relax and wind down. Shooting is right up there with eating in my book. I really enjoy it.

How many rounds did you get to put down range? I ask because I know that it gets expensive quick.

@SGH I pulled the trigger 1 whole time lol it was a friend of mine who just bought the gun, and he let a few of us pull the trigger.

i wouldn't feel too good about shooting more than one bullet from that thing... Unless the talaban was on the other end
  • A lot of fun!  338 Lapua is really cool but a bit pricey for what I can afford.  What make of rifle does he have?

@yellowdogbbq I don't even rememebr what it was. And I agree. I would never personally own one. Shooting .223 is expensive enough

Awesome.  I have never shot that caliber.  Check out this bad boy that Kyle's wife used to beat out a sniper in a completion.

Tons of YouTube videos as well.  Would love to shoot that one afternoon.

  • I thought about buying one but can't afford the bullets.  I'm sticking with my .308 for now and maybe a .300 win mag in the future.

It hurts both the shoulder and the wallet. I have a Weatherby Mark V Lasermark chambered in 340 Weatherby Magnum. It's comparable to Lapau in both price and recoil. The older I get, the less that I like it.

I have never killed a elk. Seems to be a little to hot for them down here in Dixie. However I have blown several wild hogs almost in half with it in the past. I honestly don't even shoot the 340 anymore. In my older years I have gravitated back to the 30/06 for many reasons. Reduced recoil being one of them. But I certainly agree, the 340 would make a exceptional elk gun.
