Composite Eggmates

Ok, so for my birthday my wonderful wife and kids got me a set of composite eggmates for my XL.
I am very excited to install them, but I have one question. What type of stuff can I set on them? I am wondering about hot stones, skillets, utensils, etc. I cannot find any information on their temperature handling capabilities. Can I set out item directly on them, or do you guys use hot pads, or something?

Idk , but I would assume hot pads.

Nice gift btw.

I don't put anything hot on them. Occasionally I'll see a hot ember fly out of the grill and land on them. Leaves a mark.Cooking on an XL and Medium in Bethesda, MD.

The old lighter colored egg mates cleaned up real nice with oven cleaner. Just a tip for the future. I would assume these would be the same. They will hide stuff better than the old light colored ones. I have a bunch of those cheap silicone trivets hanging around my egg space.

This has got me thinking that I should convert my wooden ones to granite.

Happy Birthday! Was it actually today, Dec 2nd? If so today is my beloved's BD as well!

Grats @Ozzie_Isaac ...
I have the newer mates as well.
I would not set anything hotter than you can handle with your bare hands on the mates.
If you get chicken grease, pork grease, beef grease on them, try to wipe them off quickly. They may set a stain. I haven't tried any cleaning products yet. Just a hard wipe with a damp rag.XL BGE, 22" Weber Red Head, Fiesta Gasser .... Peoria,AZ -

Cleaning these things was a subject on another thread. Acetone takes seconds and does a great job.
Enjoy spreading out!

@Ozzie_Isaac did you ever figure out the temp handling of the composite egg mates? I just got my egg today and don't want to ruin them right away by putting something on there I shouldn't.Large BGE

I bought mine used on here like 10 years ago and they have been outside in the TX Sun ever since. Still look awesome. Would absolutely buy again.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX
