Turkey roasting pan.

What size rectangular roasting pan will fit a large?  I'm looking at this one:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B012OIVEKU/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=22VP1WN2U33IU&coliid=IARIT85265839

I'm fairly sure that it will fit since it has rounded corners, but I got to get this right because I've been selected to cook the T-Day turkey on the LBGE.  I need a rack too because gravy is mandatory!  Any better suggestions much appreciated.

Brother I have a pan exactly like that one except it's 2" narrower. With that said, I think you will encounter problems with the 16x12 on the large egg. The large grid is 17 inches at its longest spot. As such the 16x10 is all that I can fit and still close the dome. The 16x10 will hold any size turkey so I would recommend it to avoid dome issues.

  • Thank you SGH.  That's exactly what I was looking for.  I'll stick to that as I knew it would be cutting it real close.

@shadowrider  Here is the 16x10 in the large egg with a hippy ham. You can see that 2 more inches would prevent the dome from closing.

+1 what Scottie said. BTW if you are in to taking photos for fond memories sake be sure to take one of your roaster when brand new! Here is my $85 "Martha Stewart" brand bought years ago. Shiny when new...but has looked like trash after the first use! Wifey says - don't let our guests see what you used or they may leave to go eat hamburgers at Mickey D's for Thanksgiving! LOL

The one I have came from Dollar General. If memory serves, it was regular 12.99 but on sale for 9.99 after Thanksgiving. Like yours, after one use mine looks like crap but still works great. If you saw a close up of my pan you certainly wouldn't want to eat out of it. But it still functions perfect despite its looks.

If you have a Dollar store near by, you can pick up the pan from 9.99-25.00 bucks.

Here's one I purchased at Big Lots for under $10. Note that I had to cut off the corners to be able to close my dome, but it did work  fine until I sprung for that ONCE pretty MS one pictured above!

Why not an oval like Max uses? Or don't they make those any more?

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I'm sure that they still make the ovals. But they don't seem to show up in Dollar General and dime stores like they use to. Or that's the case down here, maybe different else where. The oval pans will work just fine though.

Not sure of the need of a pan at grid level. I cook turkey direct and hams are cooked on the grid as well with a catch pan 3 or 4 inches under the grid.  Never need one.

I just smoked a turkey breast directly on the grid with a catch pan underneath, resting on the plate setter. Worked perfectly.

  • Picked this one up at WalMart for about $12 or so.  Should work fine, I won't be doing a lot of turkeys.  I don't think....
