First post!!! How many of you leave your Egg out in the weather(rain and sun)

New poster here. I've been doing a lot of reading but not much of a poster but that will change. I see the crowd on here are some really good folks. I was referred by one of the members here that's also a member on the 4Runner site I'm on. He's been very helpful to me and even sent me some stuff to get me started and he even paid shipping.
My question is how many if you leave your Egg out in the elements? I can't stand for stuff to be left out in the rain and sun. I have to pull my 4Runner in every night and if it's parked outside I have to put the window shade in. Even when my nephew lived with me he would leave his lawn mower out in the rain for a few days and it irritated me. My Kayaks and mountain bike can't be left out either. I coated the hinge and bolts on the Egg with some anti-rust stuff I used on my runner just to be on the safe side for if it's raining outside and I even use it under shelter. Maybe that's a little OCD but I like to take care of my stuff.
Want to say thanks for everyone's input on the forum. It's one of the best forums I've ever been a part of.

I bought a cover when I bought my egg. I used it for a while. But I forgot to put it back on a few times and I read on here that the egg doesn't need to be covered so I quit using the cover. It's been probably 2 years since I covered it and it is none the worse as a result.
Because of this, on a weekday when I am in a hurry and tempted to use my gas grill, I usually default to the egg because while it may take a little longer to start up, I love that when I walk in the house with the food I know I don't have to go back out later to clean and cover the grill.
i should point out that I compulsively keep my other 4 grills and firepit covered whenever they are not in use.XXL BGE, Karebecue, Klose BYC, Chargiller Akorn Kamado, Weber Smokey Mountain, Grand Turbo gasser, Weber Smoky Joe, and the wheelbarrow that my grandfather used to cook steaks from his cattle

There are a lot of folks who do leave theirs out. However I do not. I placed mine on the front porch under the roof. I just can't bring myself to leave a smoker out in the weather.

The egg is built to take the elements... that's one of the things that makes it so awesome. Smoking a brisket or butt in a snow storm is great
My egg is almost 3 years old now... been outside the whole time. The only time I will put the cover over it is if they are calling for freezing rain, otherwise, it's alfresco all the time.

My eggs are garage queens. Is it a bit much? Yeah probably. I'm not a fan of rust. So they get rolled out from the garage to the driveway. It's nice working with a nice dry egg. My eggs are on a back porch. Have been for years but planning a deck build and will put them in table in the elements. No worries with weather. Just make sure your stones stay coveredColumbia, SC --- LBGE 2011 -- MINI BGE 2013

Did I use the proper usage of An instead of A before RTIC. I feel since it's pronounced Artic I should use An. You would be the one to ask since you are their spokesperson hahahaha -
TrailRunner said:Yep I found it hilarious and that's how I remember who you are. I also read that you are just joking as you are a yeti owner lol I was seconds away from ordering an RTIC earlier but I barely get to use my yeti 65 as it is. I use my 20 more. Just like I will probably use a minimax over my large when I get it.

My Eggs have been outside since the day they came home. Never covered, never brought in. Well, I take that back, I did bring the large inside once when we were expecting tornadoes and severe thunderstorms and the sky turned that funky green color. But only that one time.

Guess I'm in the minority. I wipe down and cover my Eggs after every use. Both Eggs and the table are covered when not in use. I clean them out regularly as well. I like to take care of the things that take care of me. Cheers!Steve

The egg can take being outside just fine. However, all the other things I keep with the egg, less so. The wood table, grill tools, gloves, electronic temperature equip, etc will last longer if protected from rain and sun. Here in south FL we have two seasons - wet season and dry season. During wet season I pull the egg back onto a covered porch after each use. During dry season I will leave it out for longer stretches. Right now it has been sitting outside for over a week.Southeast Florida - LBGE
In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
I usually cover mine, but it's more to protect the table than the egg.

I had to dial it back on the 4Runner site to keep from spending money on a lift, tires and roof top tent and this site isn't any better when it comes to saving money. -
I don't cover mine but I think the real question is whether or not it will "hurt" them. I will say that the hinges and bands are made of steel and steel left out in the elements over a long period of time will rust. For me personally the cover adds a step, and then I would have to remember to put it back on after the egg cools. I use it too often to deal with the PIA. I would rather replace the bands or hinges if and when they rust out. Plus I like to see my eggs out the window.Columbus, Ohio--A Gasser filled with Matchlight and an Ugly Drum.

as far as i know, i have the only egg of any poster here in about 14 years that suffered from leaving it outside (1 of 4 ive owned). bge promptly replaced it under warranty. it was from continuously freezing, thawing, raining that did it in, my eggs are usually buried in a snow bank in winter and snow does nothing to them

I have left my egg out for the first 9 months of my ownership. That said, I have procured a table / cabinet. and will be adding a custom cover for the entire build....mostly to maintain the integrity of the table.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

Just swap the daisy wheel for the ceramic cap and you're as covered as you need to be. Of course, a covered deck solves a lot more problems than the weathering of a near indestructible, lifetime warrantied Egg. Happy Friday friends!Best - Jack

I keep mine on an outside deck and it remains uncovered most of the time. When I do use my cover I never put it back on the same day I cook and I don't put it on unless I know I'm not going to be using the Egg for a few days. Therefore, it remains uncovered most of the time.Greenwood, IN | XL BGE | Weber Genesis | Blackstone 28 | bunch of accessories

I know folks that have left it out since day one, exposed to all the elements a harsh environment can deliver, with zero harm to the BGE. These cookers have a lifetime guarantee for a reason, they are some tough hombres my friend.
Welcome to OCD heaven, the cost to join is nothing compared to the cost to stay. Have fun, this forum is filled with knowledgeable folks on anything remotely associated with the BGE. They have even helped me rebuild the robot arm on the international space station, while in space. Or wait, no that was another forum I was on, this forum, however, helped me fix my dome light in my ford truck, while in Knoxville. These folks are good! Seriously though, this is the place to be, best forum ever."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

As far as the elements go, us eggers up in the Great White North would give a lot of the US members a run for their money.
Personally, my eggs stay outside 24/7. Uncovered, nestled in their table.
Our temps run from +30C in the summer to -30C in the winter. Rain, sun, snow, never an issue. Had my Large for over 4 years, looks and works like the day we bought it (except for the glue run on the lip from replacing the gasket...). Just remember to protect your top daisy wheel, as the cast iron is prone to rust. I just store mine inside the egg when not in use.
That's the beauty of ceramics. I have a Sis and BIL that are ceramic artists. They made (threw?) a 6 foot trout (yeah, a fish...) for the driveway entrance to our property (a property marker). That was over 12 years ago. Been outside the whole time. Looks like new.
My table however, another issue. It's time for a sand and stain for sure....maybe next spring....
Spring....oh yeah....we don't see spring until late April, sometimes early May.
