I guess that is one way to interpret that report.

That report is actually just as applicable to vegans.

Consumption of higher fat foods is not necessarily bad as long as they are the right type of fats consumed in a healthful quantity.

True...as long as the vegan has an ample supply of quality protein. It's been swirling around a while now that high fat (not trans fat), high protein diets are more healthy than high carb, low fat diets. My lipid profile has gone from high to right down the middle, perfect according to my Dr. since going high protein/high fat, lower carb.

I thought they figured that out years ago.   Guess they just constantly study diet and health.

As long as the govt ponies up millions for their study, they will continue to study. Over and over and over.

Also as long as the public will buy millions of copies of books with "BEST DIET EVER" and "EAT THIS AND YOU'LL NEVER GROW OLD OR DIE"

Really, the optimal diet is completely personal, since a huge part is genetics and the microbial make-up of your gut.  If you want something that applies to the masses you could do a lot worse than Michael Pollan's "Eat Food.  Not too much.  Mostly plants."

We sure could save a lot of money if we would just stop it with all the friggin science!

To us regular folks it sure is a lot of money but when looked at as a percentage of the total federal budget it's peanuts.

Non-DOD related R&D is only 2% of federal spending. Add DOD related R&D and it only goes up to 4% of the federal budget.

I'll never really understand those folks that are so against taxpayer funded research. It would certainly be cheaper for us if we left all the "sciencing" to China, Russia, Germany, Japan, UK, France, etc., etc.

It would also certainly make us "not-smarter". :)
