Meats Put in Same Cancer-Causing Danger Category as Cigarettes or Asbestos by World Health Organizat

Knowledge can be liberating. There's a lot of base suspicion against knowledge and science that comes out as a knee jerk reaction. People are too lazy to see anything but the headline. Or look any farther than that for the truth, which is not hidden, except maybe by the news organization with a political bent. Thanks for that @HeavyG

Well.....with the World Climate Conference coming up in December it does not surprise me one bit that there is this new evaluation of studies by the WHO linking processed meat consumption with cancer. Seems to fit quite nicely.
On a positive note which could prolong our miserable cancer ridden agony......scientists have been able to GM tomatoes to "efficiently produce industrial volumes of natural disease-fighting compounds".

I quit both tobacco and alcohol, age and meds ruined something else that I enjoyed. I am going to continue eating the things I enjoy, I have sacrificed enough already!

At least alcohol is still OK for you, right? Right guys?!?!?

@JohnInCarolina- alcohol is good for you...definitely but somebody mentioned the phrase "in moderation." Whatever that means.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

The study just adds weight to what has been pretty well recognized for decades, at least. The nitrosamines found in cured meat are carcinogenic. But they are fairly weak carcinogens. And the increased chance of getting cancer from eating cured meats is fairly small. If I'm understanding the numbers mentioned, one would need to eat 16 slices of bacon a day to double the chances of getting a colo-rectal cancer. Or more than a whole 8 oz .hard salami or pepperoni.
So geez, don't stuff yourself with "cured" meats.
And take a walk every now and then, but wear a hat. And eat an apple, while your at it.

I actually bought ascorbic acid to add to my sodium nitrite cure to cut down on nitrosamines.

apples have naturally occurring cancer-causing arsenic

been at a lifetime low rate of meat consumption (about 1x/week) for the last couple years; unrelated to health or ethics just lack of desire. It's hard however to ignore how much better I've felt & it being the only changed factor of any significance I believe the two are related. Will I live a minute longer because of it? Don't know, don't care as I've always eaten whatever I wanted, still do, & that's pretty damn important for a life well lived.

Which is why I'd really prefer to get my water and apples from Calvados, if I could afford it. -

You have to look at the numbers. REAL data, not categories or opinion ABOUT data.
If eating 1 hot dog per DAY increases my chances of getting something awful by 1% and smoking vs NONsmoking is 15% greater, than I'll take the 'dog any day of the week. -
I've provided my wife with this "colon cancer prevention" video for educational purposes.

your aggression toward us morbidly obese types (which is 85% of this forum's demographic) only illustrates how intolerant you vegan feminazi subaru-driving pinkos are. i bet you have a "coexist" bumpersticker on your car. and yet you spew your fat-shaming bile here.
you sir are no gentleman. i can't understand why steven left his wife for you. but i wish you both well.

@Zippylip I accept your apology. also, in keepijng with your efforts at goading us to weight loss, I will mention that I have actually been frequenting the original "weight loss forum" section of greeneggers.com for the past seven months. there aren't many of us there, but posting our successes and failures has caused a few of us to really refocus our habits toward healthier alternatives. i myself, since March, am down almost four or five pounds. and fidel has only gained twenty
