I'm on record (I believe here) stating my doubts when Mayer was announced and started playing with Dead & Company. A douchey pop star is taking the role of Jerry?! No f'n way. Was my initial thought. What's next Taylor Swift taking the role of Donna Godchaux?
I'm joking with that last comment, but that was my feeling with the Mayer announcement.
At the end of the day if it keeps the music alive and playing for years to come, then I can tolerate it. Although, Pig Pen must be rolling in his grave, and Jerry may rise from his ashes to jerk the guitar from John Mayer's hands.
Funny part of the interview: John Mayer himself stated, "I have even started dabbling in cannabis." That's cute. I picture Weir filling John's first bong rip for him, lol.
