Think I will get one, but with "SGH" on it... That way I get special treatment and VIP cred where I go.

It might be just a rumor, but I heard if @SGH opens his passenger window, people throw SRF products onto the seat as he drives down the road.

I can't imagine they would have much of an issue with stickers. It would only help them promote their product. So some guy makes a few hundred dollars in sticker profit. That's some cheap advertisement for BGE!

I can understand the "Eggware" or whatever they called it before SmokeWare. It's a competitors product with their name in it.

Bumper stickers promoting their product, no way they say anything

It's all about branding and the image they want to convey.  And while it may make sense to everyone here, it might not be in their plan.  I highly doubt they will give permission to a 3rd party to use their likeness for free (whether or not they take a profit.)  Just my experience from what I have seen in the biz.....

You wouldn't believe how far it goes.  I know a guy that put hyperlinks in his food blogs to a certain grill manufacturer.  He didn't charge them anything, nor ask for anything--was just doing it so his readers could see the grills he was cooking on or direct them to the proper specs or whatever on their site.  When they saw the referrals from his site on their analytics, they sent him a cease and desist for using their name in his blogs (ultimately because he had advertisers on his site.)  Years later, they are a sponsor.  LOL

  • Just a follow up to something mentioned earlier. Copyright infringement occurs whether or not money changes hands. If i print their logo, i have infringed. Not a big deal, just clarifying.

In this case it'd be a case (more likely) of trademark infringement.

If you made up your own thing, you'r in the clear. If you modify theirs, it is a "derivative work", with its own complications

TL/DR  copyright infringement has little to do with being paid or not. Copy it, and you have infringed

  • And whether they have an issue with it is unimportant. This is why small time people get take down notices. It may have no impact. May even be a good thing (free advertising).  But if you do not enforce copyright (no matter how piddling and minor the use seems) you have thereby established tacit approval for actually permitting infringement. By anyone. And THAT next person can make money off it, pointing to the non-enforcement as evidence.

Likely the final resign place for my one off sticker lol... Any attempt to continue this thread would likely result in conviction by a egghead litigator
