OT: Man beaten to death over rumors he had eaten beef

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/india/11900906/Muslim-man-beaten-to-death-over-rumours-he-had-eaten-beef-in-India.html

First of all - sad for this guy and his family. Don't want to make light of his death.

I know we have lost some freedoms in this country and there is a lot of doom and gloom going around...but a man is still free to kill and eat beef here. It is in the 64th amendment or something. :)

When I went back to Mumbai in the summer ... no beef (cow), but buffalo meat was plentiful.

I was in Bangalore last year and ate at a steakhouse.  Worst. Steak. Ever.  Not surprising given the acceptability of beef overall, I just wish I hadn't been dragged there. I was with some others from the US that had had their fill of local cuisine.  Not sure how they got selected to go in the first place.
    Love you bro!

Bet I've eaten there too.  There is a (bad) BBQ place and a bad steak place in the hotel I stay.  As you say, I end up dragged to these places.. like Hard Rock Cafe.. jeez.. I'm in Bangalore, I don't want nachos and chicken wings.

I suggest you try MTR next time -  eff those others! ;)

@henapple - on one hand surprising given there's no man-sausage, but on the other hand, most other food groups are represented, so I'd vote in the "not wrong" ballot.

No BBQ joint in the hotel, just the steakhouse, a chinese place and fancy and cafeteria indian restaurants.  It's on the outer ring road on the east side of Bangalore. There was a local bbq place one about a block away that was a blast, a very local interpretation of bbq, it was fun, food was good and everyone in there was drinking, singing and celebrating in large groups on a Wednesday night.  I think we were the only non-locals in that place.

Whats MTR?  Couldn't find a definition on the interwebs that makes sense.
    Love you bro!

This is more political extremism than religious extremism. Sadly, there will be more of this kind of crap as local and state elections are in the offing. unless you've lived in India, and/or followed Indian politics closely, you have no clue how nasty/evil this can get. Very sad.

India is not generally the place to eat a steak. Try something like beef nihari or beef kababs, etc from any decent joint and life may never be the same :)

I'm happy to skip beef altogether when I go next, I'll just not be so accommodating to those traveling with me.  Last time there I was interviewing, next time I'll be visiting my group that's already established, so I'm sure they'll have plenty of great places to take me.
