Wood fired steaks ???

Want to do something different than throwing steaks on the Large BGE...Thinking of pulling the cone and using the grate from the mini to do wood fired steaks... Anyone ever done this ? Use lump as well as Oak or Hickory firewood ?

  • that should have come with a grate.  you take the flue off the body, drop th grate on it, and cook that way.

lump gets hotter than wood or flame, believe it or not.  so if it is sear you want, charcoal is better.

little more smoke too.  but you may not mind it.  people cook over campfires after all.

    I don't have a chiminea, but a campfire's a campfire. It'll be great.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Brother i cook almost everything over oak and/or pecan wood or oak and/or pecan coals. Not only will it work, it will work like a charm.

Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

    Status- Standing by.

  • Update.... been doing a couple steaks at a time (grate is only size of a mini) over a mixture of lump and oak firewood. Delicious !!!

I've got an old China made cast iron chiminea with a grate on the top.
Makes very good hotdogs while enjoying a fire.
